I am pleased to greet you again to bring you what was our first stop on the tour of the historic area of my city, that took place two days ago, and represents a very rewarding activity, which consolidates the closing of his learning project, framed in historical characters and places; For this we had the valuable support of Imatur, a municipal institution that is responsible for promoting tourism in the region, 6 tourist guides were assigned to our group of 25 children in this beautiful route, which was divided into 4 stops.
Gusto en saludarlos nuevamente para traerles lo que fue nuestra primera parada en el recorrido por el Casco Histórico de mi ciudad que se llevó a cabo hace dos días y representa una actividad muy gratificante, que consolida el cierre de su proyecto de aprendizaje, enmarcado en personajes y lugares históricos; para ello se contó con el valioso apoyo de Imatur, Institución municipal que se encarga de promover el turismo de la región, 6 guías turísticos fueron asignados a nuestro grupo de 25 niños en esta hermosa ruta, que fue dividida en 4 paradas.
For the first stop we moved along "Sucre" Street to the "Rivero" square, where the building of the Convent of San Francisco remains, which was restored in its facade to its original appearance by the staff of the "Universidad de Oriente", which currently maintains the safeguard of this Historical Heritage. Here we can see the facade of the Convent, which through the guides we learned that its original name was The Royal Monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Waters, but colloquially it was called "San Francisco" Convent, this was the first religious building in the area and apart from being a religious center, it was also a cemetery, then the first university was founded here, and then it was sold, and a soap factory was installed. This building has been constantly modified because it was destroyed by the Indians, by the different earthquakes that happened in the city, so it has suffered some transformations.
Para la primera parada nos trasladamos por la calle Sucre hasta la Plaza Rivero, donde queda la edificación del Convento de San Francisco, el cual fue restaurado en su fachada a su aspecto original por parte del personal de la Universidad de Oriente, quien mantiene en la actualidad el resguardo de dicho Patrimonio Histórico. Acá podemos ver la fachada del Convento, que por medio de los guías nos enteramos de que su nombre original fue El Real Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de las Aguas Santas, pero coloquialmente se le llamó Convento San Francisco, este fue la primera edificación religiosa en la zona y aparte de ser un centro religioso, también fue un cementerio, luego se fundó la primera universidad aquí, y después fue vendido y se instaló una fábrica de jabón. Esta edificación ha sido constantemente modificada porque fue destruida por los indios, por los diferentes terremotos que sucedieron en la ciudad, por lo que ha sufrido algunas transformaciones.
This Convent is located in front of a very important square at that time, which was renamed three times, originally it was called Plaza Santa Francisco so the convent adopted this name popularly, then it was called Plaza Rivero in honor of General Jose Ribero who was shot by the Spaniards here in this square, Then it was renamed Plaza Badaracco Bermudez in honor of Dr. Domingo Badaracco Bermudez, who lived near this square and was of great heart healing at no cost to the people of the time, so it was very dear to his people. This is the name that currently bears the square, here one of the guides performed a monologue of General Rivero, staging his confrontation against the Spanish soldiers who finally caused his death.
Este Convento está localizado frente a una plaza muy importante en esa época, la cual le fue cambiado su nombre tres veces, en su origen se llamó Plaza Santa Francisco por lo que el convento adopto este nombre popularmente, luego se le llamó Plaza Rivero en honor al General José Ribero quien fue fusilado por parte de los Españoles acá en esta plaza, luego se le cambió el nombre a Plaza Badaracco Bermúdez en honor al Doctor Domingo Badaracco Bermúdez, que vivía cerca de esta plaza y era de gran corazón sanando sin costo alguno a los pobladores de la época, por lo que fue muy querido por su pueblo. Este es el nombre que lleva actualmente la plaza, acá uno de los guías realizo un monólogo del General Rivero, escenificando su enfrentamiento en contra de los soldados Españoles, quienes finalmente le causaron la muerte.
This square can be seen where the bust of this doctor used to be, but it was stolen a few years ago, and what remains is the doctor's emblem that appears at the bottom. As you can see this place is full of history, the teacher asked questions to all the students, which they answered without any problem, once they received this talk, we moved to the next stop, which I will be sharing in a future post.
I loved being part of this experience, and seeing how amazed the children were with these stories that were recreated by their guides, these field trips are an excellent option to teach local history, until another opportunity.
Esta plaza se puede observar donde antes quedaba el busto de este médico, pero el mismo fue robado hace unos años, y lo que queda es el emblema de médico que aparece en la parte de abajo. Como pueden ver este sitio está lleno de historia, la maestra les hizo preguntas a todos los estudiantes, los cuales respondieron sin ningún problema, una que recibieron esta charla, nos trasladamos a la siguiente parada, que les estaré compartiendo en una próxima publicación.
Me encanto ser partícipe de esta experiencia, y ver lo maravillado que estaban los niños con estas historias que fueron recreadas por sus guías, estas salidas de campos son una excelente opción para enseñar la historia local, hasta una nueva oportunidad.
