Fire has an important meaning in alchemy and is associated with the element and the hot or dry aspects and in the practice of alchemy, fire was one of the most important tools without the work steps would not have been possible. Fire is even considered the most important instrument in alchemy without the entire work would not have been possible and without, it would not have been possible to transform substances or metals and for the alchemists the Roman god of fire and blacksmithing Vulcan had an important meaning and according to some interpretations, he even appears as the creator of alchemy and mastered the forces of fire perfectly. Vulcan was also considered the patron saint among the alchemists and as a divine blacksmith, he had an enormous knowledge of metals and in old alchemical works of art he was called at the end of certain work steps to complete the work with the power of fire and to transform things. You always have to distinguish from the power of fire and there were different methods to use it and to reach different temperatures that were necessary for the work when it comes to igniting fire and they were very creative and used different methods and often fire was also ignited with the help of a mirror and the sun and some substances had to be exposed to heat for weeks and some were only allowed to be exposed to fire for a short time. According to the philosophy of the alchemists, some metals unfold their effect only through fire and according to some ancient writings, the discovery of fire is already half the work in alchemy and there are numerous mythological metaphors into which beings were transformed by fire and an example is the well-known phoenix which once burned to rise again from the ashes and this step is also often associated with the creation of the Philosopher's Stone. In alchemical works of art, some figures were once burned to be awakened from the flames and this process was usually also associated with the own transformation to a higher being or enlightenment. In spiritual alchemy there is often talk of an inner fire that burns deep inside us and also in some occult interpretations fire was associated with hell or the devil and often it is also associated with the underworld or the interior of the earth and in old writings often also appears the mystical or secret fire which is described as an fire which never goes out.
