The Owler for @neverwel!

in #artlast year

How’s it going, Hive? It’s about 1:00a.m. I’m, once again, slipping back to a later schedule which I have to keep in check. I’ve been running around most the day, taking weekend meetings with @felblob, hanging out with @vermillionfox at @caffetto and visiting my friends at Other Skies books in West St. Paul. During the day, I’ve been working on this new iPad Mini to see if I can get comfortable illustrating on the smaller size device. I’m working on @neverwel as I’m trying to finish the final pieces of art before launching the project on WAX in a few weeks. That is the art I want to share tonight.

This new character is called the Owler. She’s a brute. She’s a smuggler that brings vagabonds and wayward travelers to @neverwel for work. I use WordHippo a lot when I’m writing and that term showed up. I’d never heard of an owler, even through my many years of fantasy RPG, Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. With those franchises taking virtually everything that’s existed in human history as part of their lore, I jumped at the opportunity to image what she would look like. She may end up being the first tier 2 character we have.

I love having the opportunity to do a Hive blog and watch the process from its creation. I will forever love raw pencils and black inks. I grew up idolizing Greg Capullo and Todd McFarlane with their work together on Spawn and you can see that early to mid-90’s influence in my comic work now, I’m sure. Back when Image Comics was a rebellion of the Marvel and DC machines and artists were able to flex their most creative […and often ridiculous] muscles. This was a fun one. @swarddraws did the background art for this final image which will go on to become a card.

We have a @mirrorpool meeting tomorrow where we’ll be meeting with NFTNT to talk about a big, big potential release on the EOS network with Pomelo. I also have to start circling the wagons for another grant proposal for Immutable Realms. It’s a tough time right now during the bear market and some of the only real money there is in blockchain is consistent Hive posting and pursuing grants. If I can just keep my head above water until things turn around and continue creating art while doing it, I’ll be happy. Thanks for reading! Good night!
