Inked

My work more often than not explores living subjects, sometimes buildings too, but these tend to be a backdrop for the human or natural form in the forefront. I recently created these three drawings of high-rise buildings using brushes, black ink, water and my dip pen.

When I started out to create the three drawings of buildings my intention was that they would be used as a backdrop for one of my digital animations. That idea has changed, adapted in a way to our current situation, the streets of the city at times appear empty and I can no longer imagine these drawings with a figure in the forefront.

Currently I'm working on creating a montage of the buildings to create a larger cityscape. In the foreground of the picture sits an empty road, drawn digitally with simple black and white line.

I have used drawings and prints of building before to create my animated pieces, such as the piece below called Paradise Closed Circus Open, which is on Superare. In Paradise Closed Circus Open I used a collagraph method to print the images of the buildings, I then digitally adapted these and combined them with my own photographs and collage.

In the animated piece below called Pulse, which is also on SuperRare, the buildings have been created using a dark-field monotype printing technique.
