πŸ”Ž "Zoom in" - a closer look at the "Dragonfly"

in #art β€’ 6 years ago

Today I would like to give you another closer look at one of my large oil paintings. It was done for a group show and the theme was "Dragon". Of course, I didn't want to just paint a traditional dragon, like we usually imagine it...

To give shape to the idea, I started wondering, what is typical for a (western) dragon. It can fly and spits fire, right?

Since I like mechanics and steampunk, I finally decided, to make my dragon a kind of mechanical monster, with a mouth like a jet engine.

Now, since my dragon is a sort of flying machine, it needed a pilot. I figured, why not have a kind of amazon steer the "vehicle". In addition to some rein like steering mechanism, she is wearing shoes, which also operate as fins.

In the lower area of the painted frame, one can see a "blue print" of the whole setup.

The original is a painting on board in acrylics, egg tempera and oil.

omg! i love those rudder hills! genius!!!

Hehe.. thanks 😎

Those shoes! Amazing. I love the leisured class idealism of a creature whose vanity for such lovely shoes, which inhibit walking, has at her disposal a contraption to fly about so that she might get to wear her beautiful shoes! At least that is the story I am telling myself ;)

Your repeat along the base of the work is so beautiful and would be a lovely pendant cast in bronze or made in gold or sterling! Or gold leafed along the dado of an arts and crafts country house. You are so inspiring.

And of course I LOVE your colour. It is so important to me as an artist and I just really respond to the use of colour by other artists and you really pull me in with your bright vivid palette with subtle layers of light.

Such a creative mind and amazing masterpiece!
The ideas you have and the way you express them are really stunning!

I love every detail of your work! The highheels and the mix between organic and technological elements are really impressive!

The round shape of the artwork and the medal-looking-like effect are beautiful!

You're such a super talented artist!

No problem and thanks! I just got my account yesterday - I have so many art-related ideas ... just not sure what to use for my first post.

Taking closer look to your painting is like I was given a candy :) And I think you should start thinking about making also your unique line of shoes @reinhard-schmid, I bet they would be success!

Glad you like it like that! Well, not sure the dragon steering shoes would be in such high demand ;-)

I was thinking higher level, like haute couture :)

Hahaha, glad you have such confidence in me, but I think I'm not made for the fashion industry :-b

Impressive! I love all the details and that the picture shows to perspectives of the amazon and dragon. Simply fantastic!

Thank you! Finding the right position and perspective were quite a challenge!

Very inventive and a bit humorous as well!

Humor is important. To me its kind of the salt in the soup of life :-)

Dragons are my weakness. My Numerologyarts site is with dragons: http://numerologyarts.com/
And with your original idea you managed to surprise me. :) Original and funny.

Many thanks for the link and the info I found on your site about you. Problem with things too far from what we are used to is, that a lot of people are only left puzzled... glad it surprised you like this instead :-)

My true pleasure.

WOW. a marvelous creative. I was enchanted. a "legend" drawing in one word. Someday I hope to be so talented!

Its basically all training, practice and a lot of hard work... anybody can achieve it with determination!

This is crazy @reinhard-schmid! Goodness! So absurd but senseful at the same time, pushed to the edge, meticulous, from another time and dimension. I don't know what to say, ... huh, how big is it?

110 cm in diameter. Thanks a lot for you compliments, particularly with you being a master of designing different worlds and phew... talk about detail!

That's a decent format!

Haha let's tag #mastersofdetail :D

Amazing!!!
What is the real size of this picture?

Thanks. The diameter is 110cm, roughly 43 inches.

You know... it would be interesting to look at first idea sketches of this job

drag_skiz_0.jpg

So long distance from this sketch to end form!

What an epic design!

Thank you 😁

You were able to put a lot of detail in such one painting!
Thats my kind of goal! Hehhe

Thanks. It was a lot of work! :-)

SchΓΆne Mischung zwischen RealitΓ€t und Fantasie :-D

Fast wie im richtigen Leben ;-)

This is a very high-quality and time-consuming work. I think your client was very pleased. I like how you combined a realistically painted face and decorative elements, it's interesting.

I also wanted to thank you for supporting my post with the drawing. I'm subscribing to your blog, I hope that you will come to me again, there are new drawings. Thank you.

Thank you for your judgment and your kind compliments :-)

Rad! :) A masterpiece

Thanks a lot!
