Here you can see a reproduction of the well-known artwork the forge by the Spanish painter Francisco Goya (1746 - 1828) which was probably created in 1817 and is intended to show off the art of blacksmithing and Goya had painted three men in a forge who are currently at work. One is just holding the hammer while two are busy preparing some glowing metal on the anvil which is waiting to be processed and one person is not quite clear what he is doing, but it looks like he is also holding something in his hand to attach the metal to the anvil. In Spanish, the painting is also called La fragua and in the center of the painting is definitely the dark appearance and through this effect he manages to express the forge well and directs the eye of the viewer even better to the work of the three people and also the choice of color is extremely well done and this can especially be seen in the skin colors as well as clothing. Goya has really shown a lot of attention to detail and this also comes into its own with the subliminal things such as the shades and if you view at the painting more precisely you can see also great reflections as with the anvil, which creates an additional elegance and he manages improve the overall impression of the picture with the small details and make it look even more authentic. The original work was originally painted with oil paints and what exactly his intention was for the creation is not exactly known, but Goya was inspired by the Spanish painter Diego Velázquez (1599 - 1660) who was also fascinated by the art of blacksmithing and he has stationed an example with the work Apollo in the forge of Vulcan and was probably also an important source of inspiration for Goya. This work looks also similar to his other work Three Men Digging and both have appeared at similar intervals and you can see the similar stylistic devices that were used and rough differences can be seen in the facial characteristics and this work is a good example of Goya's late works and the original piece can be found today in an exhibition in New York.
