Continuamos con la serie surfera que Basqueland Brewing realiza con los mejores lugares donde practicar surf. Ya había probado Mundaka y Nazaré. Ahora desde Chile, es el turno de Punta Lobos, otro de los sitios míticos donde practicar este deporte.
Hacía tiempo que no probaba nada de estos chicos de Hernani, a los que resulta difícil seguirles el ritmo, ya que su nivel de producción es muy elevado y todas las semanas sacan cuarto nuevas latas al mercado. Me da la sensación de que han bajado un poco el nivel respecto a los últimos años. En 2023 se llevaron el premio a la mejor cervecera europea, igual aquel fue su techo. Alguna fuga de maestros cerveceros en sus filas también puede ser el motivo. La nueva marca vasca de cerveza Mumbo Jumbo ha sido creada por estos maestros cerveceros que os cuento dejaron las filas de Basqueland. Por cierto con creaciones de mucho nivel. No sé el motivo pero espero que vuelvan a ese nivel top europeo que tenían.

La cerveza está buena, muy refrescante y fácil de beber. Con matices a hierba fresca recién cortada y ralladura de lima. Pero llamemos a las cosas por su nombre. No es una West Coast, para empezar el color no es el característico del estilo, limpio y cristalino. Más bien es algo turbio y le falta mucho sabor y sobre todo mucho amargor para considerarse una verdadera West Coast. Esto, lamentablemente, cada vez está pasando más. A mí personalmente me cabrea bastante porque no se puede poner en la etiqueta algo que realmente no es. Imaginaros que vas comprar un vino tinto y luego resulta que es rosado. Pues esto es parecido.
En cualquier caso, la cerveza está muy buena. Pero es una IPA normal.

The beer is good, very refreshing and easy to drink. With nuances of freshly cut grass and lime zest. But let's call a spade a spade. It is not a West Coast, to begin with the color is not characteristic of the style, clean and crystalline. Rather, it is somewhat cloudy and lacks a lot of flavor and, above all, a lot of bitterness to be considered a true West Coast. This, unfortunately, is happening more and more. Personally, it pisses me off a lot because you can't put something on the label that really isn't. Imagine that you are going to buy a red wine and then it turns out that it is rosé. Well this is similar.
In any case, the beer is very good. But it's a normal IPA.
Vaya lo que es conocer bien el producto, yo leo lo que es y me creería sin duda que refleja eso, pero es que las IPAs no son mi fuerte. Buen apunte este.
Bueno, dentro de las IPA hay mas de 15 estilos y en concreto las West Coast son mis favoritas. Por eso cuando veo una la pruebo, pero luego realmente no es ese estilo. Casi no se hacen ya.
