Be careful what you wish for.... (Round 84 - for internal use only)

... it might just come true.

The Bitcoin fork of 2017 was welcomed, with unexpected surprise, on my part. Suddenly, wealth appeared from the vapors like mana from heaven. Crypto creation seemed more like Farming than Mining, with one laying down the seed of a blockchain only to see a cloned likeness rise into being. My hope was that 2018 would be the year of Bitcoin forks; never considering the fragmenting of Bitcoin which the upcoming Bitcoin Cash fork is a perfect example.

When is low level forking considered fragmentation?

Many are predicting a continued pressure for further forking of Proof of Work tokens, driven by developers, not investors. Much of the excitement of the blockchain technology, for me, is to watch the progressions and adaptations of the technology while considering investing, almost, too early to know the real winners for sure. The coins themselves seems to be morphing to shape into their future forms.

Guess that's what makes me such a HODLer.

What is thought to be causing numerous forks of many Proof of Work tokens is the lack of governance in many Proof of Work schemes. Many feel that some real voting mechanism seems required to halt this continued direction towards more forking, which has been much more elusive in the Delegated Proof of Stake systems, which have that needed governance.

How might Proof of Work and Delegated Proof of Stake be merged?

There is a project poised to bring the two concepts of token mining together (Proof of Work and Delegated Proof of Stake) through merged mining or #DEVSTEEM as it has affectionately become to be known as. This project merge mines the Devcoin proof of work coin with STEEM's delegated proof of stake.

My current excitement about @DevCoin is that here we have a bi-product of Bitcoin core's mining that has recently been set to merge mine with STEEM. So we have a network with the security of Bitcoin core and the production volumes approximately the same as STEEM. A more detailed explanation, of how merged mining of DevCoin and STEEM work exactly, can be found by following the link below.

It has been a number of years, now, since becoming involved in the @devcoin project. My main function is the acting HR Human Resource Admin, although my other contributions have included program bounties and forum administration.

In its early days its primary function was a means to reward Open Source Programmers. Then DevTome was developed and it took up a large focus of the project. With DevTome, content creators could be awarded as well as open source programmers. Now @devcoin looks poised to act as a bridge across that great divide of Proof of Work and Delegated Proof of Stake tokens with its merged mining with STEEM.

One could say that the @DevCoin Community chose the Wikipedia Model to distribute wealth where the STEEM Community chose the Social Media Model. This makes DevCoin and STEEM very complimentary... almost counterpoints to one another. The two coins are also complimentary in terms of their mining volumes.

In the most general of sense, both coins are designed to bring rewards to content creators. It seems only natural that the two communities should be brought together through the merged mining of their tokens.

Great article @novacadian! I'm very hopeful about devcoin specially because your analogy about the bridge. This new synergy between Devcoin and STEEM thanks to #DevSTEEM will improve and diversify more the markets, and doing it in a ethical way! Thanks for sharing!!!
