A commitment to (discovering) myself.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? When's the last time you revisited those childish dreams? ... Reclaiming parts of myself that have been missing over the years; I've given myself the challenge of completing 100 drawings by year-end. This is #3, and the first attempt at a portrait in over a year. (One of maybe 5 over the past 25 years.) Proprtions are off- and humans, as subjects, are particularly unforgiving of spatial mistakes. But, the goal isn't 100 good drawings. The goal is 100 practice drawings. Any completed attempt is a step in the right direction. ...

I wanted to be a scientist, artist, musician, astronaut, actor, author. I'm only 43. Could still happen.

The problem with the dreams of a child, is that they are dreams of a child.
There isn't anything real about them for an adult.

However, the seeds of what you truly desire are usually therein to find.

Looking from the outside, your child dreams are to be popular and liked for your "achievements". And, if that is the heart of it, then along that path lays only tragedy. You can't get there from here.

If you want to be a popular comedian, you can't do it. If you want to make people laugh and enjoy themselves, you can become a comedian... one who may become popular.

However, if what your child dream was to explore, and see knew things... well then, all of those paths are just stories your teachers told you. And the stories are false. But, going and exploring new things is often easy, you just have to expand your boundaries.

I hope you will continue with your drawings if you enjoy drawings.
And share with us what you find valuable in remembering your child dreams.
