I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Tokyo once and I didn't know that I would encounter some of the most perfect and pristine mountains in the world. Being in front of Mount Fuji was central to that trip. I remember that I stared at it and ended up crying because of all that it moved me. I remember that I was so moved that I needed to put it down on paper to be able to get down everything that was going on inside me and here I transcribed it and I wanted to share it with you. I called it, Letter from Fuji.
Hello! I am Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan and an iconic symbol of this beautiful country. I am located on the island of Honshu, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and a rich cultural history. Let me take you on a journey down my paths and tell you all about myself.
From my summit, which rises some 3,776 meters above sea level, I can see the beauty of the region around me. My slopes are covered with lush green forests and meadows that contrast with the white of the snow that covers me during the winter. In spring, my hillsides are filled with color from the cherry trees and other wildflowers, creating a breathtaking spectacle that attracts visitors from all over the world.
My form was shaped by volcanic activity over the centuries but I know I may look like Da Vinci's best work, but no, I was born that way. Although I am now inactive, my volcanic past can still be seen in the craters that dot my summit and the numerous fumaroles that emit steam. In spite of my current tranquility, I have always been considered an active volcano and for that reason I am always being looked after so as not to make a mess.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people visit me to climb to my summit and contemplate the sunrise from the top. The most popular route, the Yoshida route, offers an exciting but achievable challenge for hikers of all ages and abilities. During the climbing season, which runs from July through August, my trails fill with enthusiastic hikers looking to conquer my summit and experience the sense of accomplishment that only a mountain like me can offer.
In addition to being a popular destination for climbers, I am also a sacred place in Japanese culture. Since ancient times, I have been revered as a place of spiritual power, and many pilgrims visit my temples and shrines in search of enlightenment and inner peace. Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine, located in the foothills of my mountain, is one of the most important places for these spiritual practices and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
My influence extends beyond my own slopes, as I have inspired artists, poets and writers for centuries. My graceful forms and majestic presence have been immortalized in countless works of art, from paintings and prints to haikus and novels. My image has become a symbol of the beauty and grandeur of nature, and my legacy will live on long after my rocks are no longer climbed and my forests are no longer explored.
I am much more than just a mountain. I am a witness to the history and culture of Japan, a destination for adventurers and spiritual seekers, and a reminder of the beauty and majesty of the natural world. Tuve la maravillosa oportunidad de ir a Tokio una vez y yo no sabía que podía encontrarme con unas de las montañas más perfectas e impolutas del mundo. ¡Hola! Soy el Monte Fuji, la montaña más alta de Japón y un símbolo icónico de este hermoso país. Me encuentro en la isla de Honshu, rodeado de paisajes impresionantes y una rica historia cultural. Permíteme llevarte a un viaje por mis caminos y contarte todo de mí.
Desde mi cumbre, que se eleva a unos 3.776 metros sobre el nivel del mar, puedo ver la belleza de la región que me rodea. Mis laderas están cubiertas de exuberantes bosques y prados verdes que contrastan con el blanco de la nieve que me cubre durante el invierno. En primavera, mis laderas se llenan de color por los cerezos y otras flores silvestres, creando un espectáculo impresionante que atrae a visitantes de todo el mundo.
Mi forma fue moldeada por la actividad volcánica a lo largo de los siglos pero se que les puedo parecer como la mejor obra de Da Vinci, pero no, naci asi!. Aunque ahora estoy inactivo, mi pasado volcánico aún se puede apreciar en los cráteres que puntean mi cumbre y en las numerosas fumarolas que emiten vapor. A pesar de mi tranquilidad actual, siempre se me considera un volcán activo y por ese motivo están siempre cuidándome para no hacer quilombo.
Cada año, cientos de miles de personas me visitan para escalar hasta mi cima y contemplar el amanecer desde lo alto. La ruta más popular, la de Yoshida, ofrece un desafío emocionante pero alcanzable para excursionistas de todas las edades y habilidades. Durante la temporada de escalada, que va de julio a agosto, mis senderos se llenan de excursionistas entusiastas que buscan conquistar mi cumbre y experimentar la sensación de logro que solo una montaña como yo puede ofrecer.
Además de ser un destino popular para los escaladores, también soy un lugar sagrado en la cultura japonesa. Desde tiempos antiguos, he sido venerado como un lugar de poder espiritual, y muchos peregrinos visitan mis templos y santuarios en busca de iluminación y paz interior.
