Gridcoin on Graphene!

After successful Gridcoin rebranding, we are in need of some new banners for BOINCstats and such, targeting veteran BOINC users and enthusiasts. Since BOINC (and Gridcoin) communities are all about science and computing for science, science-related slogans and imagery work best there and in this case, I guess one cannot miss with graphene and its hex polygons. So, Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you Gridcoin on Graphene :)

Graphene3.png

Graphene is a form of carbon consisting of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in an hexagonal lattice. So, plenty of C's.

Well, benefits are obvious here: graphene structure is hexagonal, just like our new logo, so the hexes kinda fit together, reaching to every BOINC geek out there and creating an impulse to click our ad, because it's science, not some suspicious hashing with zero utility outside crypto etc.

Of course, almost every hex structure looks sciency, so possibilities are endless.

These are just drafts, some extra polishing is needed to make it 100% AdWords-Worthy. Got some catchy slogans for BOINC enthusiasts? Post them in the comments!

Fantastic idea and great look overall!

The top banner is hard on chemists eyes though. For each hexagon you have used 4 single and 2 double lines. Each atom has 4 electrons used for bonding. 3 of them create direct bonds with neighbours after coupling with their electrons. The 4th one forms a pair of delocalised electrons - some physical properties of graphene are a result of this. These electrons are quite freely moving around the network.

Ideally would be to use 6 single lines and a circle inside depicting 3 pairs of delocalised electrons.

OK solution is to use 3 single and 3 double lines

  • 6 single lines, like in the bottom banner, that are not trying to depict chemical structure - are perfectly fine.

EDIT. I apologize, I've messed up, it won't work either. Seems like it's best to use schematics with single lines. I'll try to be back later.

Upvoted this to be on top, so that the world can see that the Gridcoin Community is the real deal!

Frankly, I just typed "graphene structure" in Google Images and picked one which seemed suitable for editing in Photoshop. But I can probably use another image, if it's more accurate. Have one handy? :)

I apologize, I've messed up, it won't work either. Seems like it's best to use schematics with single lines. The image you have used is OK, even though this notation is missing electron delocalisation.
You can take back an upvote for my previous post :(

Science is hard. Upvote can stay for good effort :)

I spent some time browsing Google Images, looking for a better image, but couldn't find anything more suitable really.

Just leave it, it's fairly OK. And looks good.

I appreciated your comment -- it's worth at least looking for something more notationally correct. But yeah in the end I think it's fine. Scientists routinely abuse notation out of laziness [source: a lazy scientist :-) ]

Impressive work sir! Looks very attractive and condensing the main ideas and targets of Gridcoin.
Keep BOINCing!

Wo wow wow. I love it.
After reading your title and I was thinking that you will talk about Graphene blockchain :D

Anyway, good work

Very Cool!!

Can't stand the heat?

Really nice banners there mate!

Almost thought you where going to disclose something else there for a second 😅

PS. Gridcoin will be on Graphene, the Blockchain, soon again though. In the end of November, the BitShares Core will be performing the next major hardfork. This will enable the Gridcoin MPA once again. See you there!

Thanks! The title is intentionally pretentious, of course :)

Looking forward to Gridcoin MPA on Graphene the Blockchain.

Just perfect!

These are awesome

I think these banners look great already and will be attractive for non-geeks as well.

Impressive! I can not imagine what is the need of extra polishing. It's just perfect!

Nice work I like the multiple layers of graphene especially.

Maybe some nanotubes of Bucky balls next?

They look brilliant!

I love Gridcoin font too, do you know what it's called?

Thank you kindly @vortac!

I love the bottom one! Thank's for doing this.

I very much like the second image, looks crisp and techy, first one reminds me more of a chemical application.

Nice! I really dig the second one!

quick question for the short-attention-spans:

is Gridcoin a similar model/platform to Golem or i.Ex.ec, or how exactly does it differ?

There are some similarities, that question was discussed quite often few months ago, while Golem was still new and hyped. You can check these articles for more details:

great, thanks. :-)

Oh cool artwork @vortac ! Would like to integrate some for advertising on the upcoming steempunk-net website.
Kudos and respect!
