Nothing makes one feel so strong as a call for help. (Pope Paul VI)

There are several ways to approach the quote of the day... A call for help isn't only about the person asking for help, but about the person he asks. What kind of effect does a call for help have on the person in need?

To ask for help is about humbling yourself. You must admit that there are things you cannot do on your own, or that there is knowledge others might have that you don't have yourself. For many, this is humbling, and they hate that feeling... so they'd rather not ask for help at all. What is the result? Things will not get done, or you might try yourself and only get a half-good solution.

The only way to the top is with the help of others. That is why I don't find it fair that the people climbing Mount Everest gets all the attention and fame, while those sherpas carrying much of the burden are just forgotten about. It is team-work, and we all need the help of others.

And then you have the other person... the one you ask for help. What will happen once that person gets the question? Some might start to make fun of you and look down on you for not having the required skills or knowledge. If that is taking place, then that person is stupid, dumb, and isn't wise at all. But, most wise people know when a person comes with honest intentions and a good request for help, and they will feel honored and happy to help. After all, they know that asking for help isn't easy, but they will take it as a honor that you ask them, and it will also make them feel better that you believe them to be capable of such a task.
