Fury vs Usyk Do you care?

in Sports Talk Social16 days ago (edited)

I haven't really been a huge fan of boxing as of late largely because the industry has been bastardized by the likes of Triller, Jake Paul, and sadly, even Tyson Fury himself. This match taking place in the next 24 hours or so is billed by many as being the most important heavyweight fight of the century but well, they say that about every fight that happens, don't they?

Now I am going to be a little bit mean here and say that if I knew nothing about what I was looking at and you asked me what do i think these two guys do for a living I would be a lot more likely to say "plumbers" than "professional boxers" and I guess that is part of the fun.

Because the fight is taking place in Saudi Arabia, a lot of the world is going to get a rather shite start time for the fight and as usual, the undercards are, well, i am not a huge fan of boxing but I don't really even know who any of these people are. Unfortunately it is very difficult to just tune in for the big fight but I'm going to do my best because I don't really enjoy sitting through a who's who of who cares in my wait for the big fight of the night.

when you look at the first picture you might come the conclusion that Usyk is a little guy and like I originally though "is that guy really a heavyweight?" Well the thing is he is probably bigger than most of the people you know but Fury is just absurdly huge at nearly 7 feet tall.

This should be a good fight, right? I can't really say. It's been while since I was into boxing because so much of the boxing that we have these days are the silly not real boxing matches that feature Jake Paul vs. some old guy or someone who isn't really even a boxer.

Perhaps this will be better. I know for a lot of people the most exciting part of the match can likely be the theatrics involved with getting the fighters to the ring.

Will I watch it? I don't even know for sure yet. I'll have to see how the rest of the day pans out for me and take it from there.

At the moment, and this can always change. Tyson Fury is a very slight favorite for the win but it is pretty even so a bet on either fighter can at least at the moment, result in a near 1:1 payout.

Oh thanks for this. I didn't kniw that fight will be tomorrow. I go for Usyk. I love the way he moves.

I don't know if Fury has been keeping up with his fitness. I think after all that pay per view money on fake fights he might not really be all that interested in being at the real top of boxing.

Yeah, same thought here as I watched the last fights of these two boxers. Usyk is still sharp.

hope you enjoyed it. I did!

Still traveling. 😆

Now watching it.

The fight is close. Up to round 6, I think Fury is ahead. Round 7 is the transition. Round 9 is big for Usyk, but I wonder why the referee stopped him. If not, it could be a knocked down.

yeah, i didn't understand that either. The round wasn't yet finished and Fury hadn't put a knee to the ground yet. I don't think that stoppage was justified. Thankfully it didn't change the outcome.

Yeah, I saw Fury very confident thinking he won the game. But when Usyk's name was announced as victorious, I admire how Fury conceded. That's a good display of sportsmanship.

LEO Power Up Day - May 15, 2024

I just finished watching it on a live stream via Twitter because this was pay per view. A better fight than expected with the right result for once. Fury is a proper clown and did not show enough respect to his opponent. A rematch in October has already been announced which will hopefully see Usyk taking the higher percentage of the fight purse next time.

Fury is a proper clown and did not show enough respect to his opponent.

I think getting a taste of that YouTube money made him a proper clown. Perhaps this will bring him back down to earth.

41 punches he was on the receiving end in the last 30 seconds of round 9 and should have been knocked out if it was not the ropes holding him up. Most refs stop the fight long before it gets to that point.
