Parian Monumental and Sculptural Tableau: A Glimpse of the Past

Parian Monumental and Sculptural Tableau: A Glimpse of the Past

Hello Hive Fam, welcome to another blog post featuring the Parian Sculptural Tableau, Parian before was originally a Chinese settlement here in the Philippines. Come join me in this one of life experience and together let's watch and read a glimpse from the past. Fasten your seat belts and together let's drive into the amazing wonders of history.

In partial fulfillment for our subject, our professor initiated a museum walk in Cebu City, particularly we will be delving with the wonders of the Parian Park. On the day of the Museum Tour, everybody were so excited to travel back in time through the magical wonders of museums. Early in the morning I am busy packing up my stuffs to bring, I did not even have a good sleep because of my excitement hahaha. I also brought with me, my phone to document my first ever museum tour and most especially, I never forgot to bring my parents consent since I will not be able to go with my classmates if I do not have one. At 7:00 in the morning, I already go to our meeting place, and there I saw my classmates and our professor. We waited for the others to come, while waiting for the others to come, we take our breakfast at a nearby restaurant inside the park mall. After eating, we are then head counted and briefed of the things that we need to remember while doing the museum walk by our professor. I'm so excited to kick this day with a museum tour with them.

After we are all gathered at park mall, we then ride a bus going to our first stop. While inside the bus I saw the thrilling view of city life, highly urbanized, traffic, high rising skyscrapers, noisy environment, business oriented, and crowded public spaces. As a social scientist, I can't help but compare the it with my life in the province, quiet and peaceful. Anyway, our first stop was the University of San Carlos Museum, which I already made a blog about. If you haven't read it yet, go through all my post and click it to read or click this link to read the wonders of the USC Museum featuring their beautiful galleries.

For now we will be moving on to our next stop, the featured blog for today, the Parian Sculptural and Monumental Tableau. After we visited the Galleries of the USC Museum, we eat our lunch at Mang Inasal inside the 138 Mall in Cebu City, after eating we explore the 2nd floor of the mall, shortly after we then proceed with our Museum Walk. We walk a distance going to the Parian Park, it was indeed exhausting especially we walk under the scorching heat of the sun. Good thing I bring with me my umbrella to suppress the heat and a tumbler of water to quench my thirst throughout the walk.

At last, after a tiring walk we already have reached the mesmerizing height of the Parian Park, all the swelling in my feet and the shaking of my knees in the walk all paid off upon seeing the beauty of the craft. It was indeed mind blowing and most of all educational, each piece of the masterpiece depicted an event of the Philippine History.

There I noticed foreign tourist being guided by a tourist guide, it's just good to know that even foreigners were interested of our local histories, oh my eyes and mind then again made its work at observing people, which I can say actually good if you are a social scientist, observant. We then roam around the Park and witness in person the intricate design of the sculptural Tableau. The Parian Sculptural Tableau was made and crafted by the national artist Eduardo Castrillo along with architects Heradio Español and Ildefonso Santos. It was the masterpiece of the park, supposedly the site of a former Saint John the Baptist Church, but as the church was demolished by the order of the Diocese of Cebu, there erected the Parian Monumental and Sculptural Tableau. It was made of a mix of materials like concrete, bronze, brass and steel. It depicted the Cebu's involvement of the Philippine History from the dawn of the European colonization (Battle of Mactan), to the birth of the Philippine Republic and inauguration of the first ever president coming from Cebu, Sergio Osmeña, and the canonization of Pedro Calungsod as saint which is also a Filipino, by the Catholic Church. At last I see all of these things closely, before I used to just pass by along the road near the park, starting then I am so curious about the park and told myself, "one day I will explore that park". That's why I am so grateful with my professor for initiating this museum walk. A part of my dreams has been fulfilled.

If you want to know more details about the Parian Monumental and Sculptural Tableau, I will be providing here a link for you to discover its history. What are you waiting for, have the Parian Park in your checklist for places you wanted to visit in the future. Overall, my experience with Parian Park was truly memorable, I was really amazed of how the this craft was made possible. The Tableau was intricately crafted, which made it a beautiful masterpiece to ponder on. Before leaving the park, I really examined each piece I saw on the tableau, and together with my classmates we took a picture together along with our instructor to remember all of the beautiful and amazing experience we had at the Parian Monumental and Sculptural Tableau. That's all for today Hive Fam, I hope you enjoy reading. Have a nice day ahead!
