European stonechat in the wild

European stonechats breed in heathland, coastal dunes and rough grassland. In the grasslands of eastern Austria I was able to take several pictures of this beautiful bird. Especially in Lower Austria and the Burgenland it can be found in bigger numbers than elsewhere in Austria. I especially like it when birds are peaching on flowers, bushes or reed. This european stonechat here was perching on different flowers and grass in the grasslands of Lower Austria, it likes small shrubs and bramble and therefore the more natural spots between the cropfields or wasteland are the best habitats for these birds. I wish there would be more of these landscapes here in Austria since also a lot of other birds prefer this kind of habitat.

But I have to admint the Stonechat is one of the more beautiful birds, at least the male here in the pictures, I lke the combination of this red, brown and black color very much, eventhough the eyes are often very bad visible on this kind of birds.
