How long can running shoes last?

in Running2 years ago

Well, I've been thinking about renewing my running shoes for some time, I keep track of their mileage and they've reached 1,489 km in 202 runs.
Although they are not completely destroyed, I think it is no longer safe to use them but I have been delaying their replacement for various reasons, but the main one is that the new versions of this shoe were at exorbitant prices.
My running shoe model of a lifetime and for every race on asphalt is the MIZUNO WAVE RIDER. I am faithful to this model and I do not want to try anything else since, in the past, I have had the experience of having injuries trying other models of other brands. For me there is nothing better than MIZUNO, whether for asphalt or trail racing.
In any case, today I saw a discount in the store that was difficult to avoid, 50% on 159 Euros, that is, about 80 Euros in the model that I want but in a special version called "OSAKA" (in honor of the marathon of that city)...

They are too white for my liking, I am sure that in a couple of runs that clean little color will turn brown or gray, but in the store there was no other option.

As you can see, my entire arsenal of running shoes has been MIZUNO for many years, a pair of these shoes used to last me less than a year, the latter have lasted me two due to the reduction in training due to the pandemic but, as a rule In general, the average duration of this model of running shoes exceeds 1000km
I hope that these new shoes will last me at least 1000km, that is more than 6 months if I maintain the current training volume. This model has been completely redesigned and many materials have been replaced in its cushioning. It is said that its behavior has changed a lot with respect to the predecessor models that were characterized by being the perfect training shoe for everything but that allowed you to go very fast if you required it.
We'll see.
As always, keep on running!

My first decent running shoes were Waveriders and they were comfortable. I have tried a few other brands and they do vary. I think after 1000km they really need replacing. Some have become normal footwear, but some are not ideal as they are not waterproof. Good running shoes are pretty expensive, so finding some on a discount is ideal. I ought to check for sales.

I always buy obsolete versions of the same model, they used to bé cheaper 😉

These seem to keep updating shoes each year and they may not be much different. I have looked at articles about the new models on running sites and there are an insane number of new shoes each year. I guess I get good value from my shoes and my Hive posts could easily cover the cost each year.

!BEER

Hey @toofasteddie, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Do you want to win SOME BEER together with your friends and draw the BEERKING.

Whilst I'm not a regular runner, I do walk about 6km a day. And my only form of shoes going on every occassions and events are my Adidas Duramo since 2017. I tried different brands and types of running shoes over the past, but it seems these didas is the only ones that doesn't emit funny smell even wearing them months after months. Durability, I don't trace my miles to the max, but usually they last 600km on my running app tracker. I do send the shoes to the cobbler to had the sole replaced and continue to wear them going to work and buying a new one for workout purpose.

And thanks for sharing, have not try in Mizuno before, will give it a go on my next pair.

Adidas is a good running shoes brand as well.

Hi @toofasteddie, these shoes cushioning is with foam, air or gel? And the previous model?
I believed in Asics gel till Adidas came with their foam and didn't want anything else any more (probably I wasn't the only one cause most other brands started to put foam as well). I loved the Energy Boost 3 and the first Galaxy models but the energy boost 4 was not giving me the same results and the later galaxy (the new name escapes me now...) got too clumsy (I had 2 pairs from both to make sure I wasn't mistaken), even for training; so I needed to look for something new :-( I've changed to Nike Pegasus I think it's 36 - the last completely Air ones for training.... (the next models world be a combination of air and foam) and I esa really astonished about the difference in cushioning. I mean especially the difference in your legs when you've been running 15-20km with them... Liking forward already to try the hybrids cause the site makes be sink into the asphalt when I want to go doit a more or less higher rhythm...

Foam I guess among other materials

@bingbabe has lots of running shoes, not one.., maybe 50 lots. I think its a replacement for the general woman obsession of collecting regular shoes. Drives me insane.

Yeah, I have maybe 10 pairs, but women are more enthusiastic in accumulating expensive stuff

I started running with a very old pair of running shoes (think it was a Nike lunar trainer). I didn't make much of it and it seemed like I could use it forever at the time.

I think for running, your level and the goal determines the lifespan of our shoes. Can't be dreaming of fast times when the shoes are all worn out

I'm a hoka guy. Gotta protect those knees :)

Too much absorbing material for my liking

I prefer running on clouds than being Speedy Gonzales :P
