I want to really appreciate this special creature of God called bees. They are unique specie of insects in our environment whose economic importance can't just be easily be overemphasized.
Since I grew up, I have never seen an insect that behaves this way. Sometimes I kept wondering whether some insects have any economic importance like bees. For instance house fly. All I know is that they cause lots of diseases to human and cause more havoc to the surrounding. Recently too I was reflecting on the benefits of cockroaches, I might not be able to spot it clearly but I believe it has no varied economic importance compare to bees.
I didn't study agriculture but I have some ideas and experience about how powerful insects like bees behave. I remembered when I was in the village, I was told that when you put on perfumes on your body you don't suppose to be moving anyhow because the bees have the capacity to perceive or smell any fragrance. That actually kept me locked up and scared once i put on any perfume on my body but I have never seen the bees following someone anyhow like that sha...
There might be different kind bees but on a general note, I consider their significance more viable than any other thing. I remembered one day I mistakenly touched a tree that bees were on it hmmmm it sting me on the head. All day I was just scratching my head. That was the only terrible experience I could ever share about bees. In a short while, I would like yo highlight some benefits or economic importance of bees that I know.
- They are good pollinators. Bees helps in pollinating other plants especially those in the forests. They Petch on the flower and transfer some pollen grains from the anther of one tree to another. It could be either cross or self pollination. I think amongst other insects, bees are major source.
- Bees normally produce honey that is commonly used by many today. One of the surest and natural sugar i know today. I have been selling honey for almost three years now. Some people use the honey for medicinal purposes such as ulcers, wound,etc. In another area ladies use it for treatment of their skin etc.
- Bees today has been greatly used for agricultural activities. There are many people that are into bee farming so that they can produce honey. I just remembered how my cousin decided to go into bees farming even though some intruders came and destroyed yet he persisted and at least he made a little harvest.
- It could serve as source of food or prey to other animals.
Since bees has such economic importance, it's expedient that there should be a policy to govern or restrict people from intruding into other people's farm. A penalty can be given in this case as well. A monitor and evaluation team whose responsibility will be check periodically so that conservation and protection of bees. I wish each and everyone that commemorate this day a happy moment.
