Dear Moon — Hive

Dear Moon,

It's been while since I talked to you. I was editing my recent picture of you. I found myself reflecting on the last time I talked to you. That reflection tapped into a host of stored memories, as glimpses of previous conversations were released.

Talking to you is a habit created by a much earlier version of me. I found myself attempting to remember the first time I layed eyes on you, and smiling at futility of those efforts. I tried imagining the events that could have been occurring around me the moment I first layed eyes on you. Only to realize that I wouldn't have even had the presence of mind to understand what's I was seeing, or even what it meant to see.

As the decades passed, I've not only learned to recognize you. I've grown an appreciation for you. Most of the time it's a simple acknowledgement of your presence. While other times prompting me to stop, and allow myself a moment to appreciate you. Yet there have been even rarer moments where I've spoken to you. These conversations have left impressions from the previous versions of me preserved within my thoughts of you.

These impressions carrying with them the feelings and hopes of earlier versions of me. Reminding me of not only what I've been through, but of the hopes for who I'd become. So once again I'm sitting here alone. Talking to you again. Honoring my previous obstacles and accomplishments. Acknowledging the life that I've lived, and leaning on you to carry my continued hope for who I will become. For I know you will be there shining down on him, waiting for the moment he too stops to converse and reflect. I leave with you a hug and a pat on the back for him, and look forward to remembering all that he's done.
