Chores, Duck, Chiro, Prep, Coop Door, Glass Blowing, Fire, Heavy Rain, Grilling, 8 Years on Hive - Monday

Yesterday morning after getting the boys to school I got my clothes washed and dried just in time for me to head out to my chiro appointment.

Over night we lost a duck. Something came in and ate the blue Swedish which was too dumb to go in the coop and paid the price for ignorance. I'm not terribly heartbroken over it as it brings us down to 4 ducks left, 3 females and the male which have never given us ducklings due to his ineffectiveness as a male.

I'm much more at ease now with the muscle pains that I feel occasionally now that I know my head pain has just been a long running ear infection. My spine and neck are FAR FAR better than when I first started going and I am now to maintenance every 2 weeks.

They dropped a building on the pad with the crane. It is a fiber optic telecom building I am pretty sure, one which will NEVER provide us fiber since we are across the creek. It the same shit hole company that cut through our internet line last year when they were running the lines up the road. Part of why we have Starlink now.

Gathering things for packing. It is to be raining much of the next couple weeks and travel in the truck will require bins to make sure everything stays dry since the3 topper is not exactly waterproof.

I had gotten into the attic for bags and the big suitcase was sitting out when I got home with the boys from school. R instantly climbed inside and we zipped him up then rolled him around a bit.

The topper went on the truck even though the bed was still wet from the rain that fell while waiting for them to get out of school. I rally need to fill the gap on the front end but nothing wants to stay put.

I had used screws to install the hinges for the coop door. The wire is installed on the right side that pulls it open. That pull had levered the screws and forced them to loosen a lot. I remove the one screw and installed a 1/4-20 bolt that holds the hinge super tight. Now the door opens much nicer and will stay fixed to the wall.

Once the boys got the dishes put away in the dishwasher J and I went out to the glass studio as he was wanting torch time. I made a couple things while he worked on the small torch.

It will take some time for him to figure things out but this summer we will spend more time at the torches.

While he worked at the torch I went and got a fire going in the pit.

I made sure to get it burning good as a storm was bearing down on the farm.

It was super dark to the northwest as it moved our way.

I got a few minutes at the board and got this nice 124.

Then the sky let loose and the deluge began.

IMG_20240520_170731.jpg

It was an intense downpour for a while that was some of the harder rain I have witnessed in a while. Suddenly the downpour stopped as a gap in the storm moved over then the rains came back again as the back of the storm moved over.

The steaks went on the grill as the storm was moving off to the southeast.

Which left us with a nice sunny evening.

I headed out to soak early as I had to be out in time to get the birds ushered into the coop before the door shut. I noticed the fir tree has a slew of bright green new growth all over it.

I hit my 8 year anniversary here on Hive. Less than 1000 accounts have made it this far.

Today I have a long list of stuff to get done. Work on the coop door and in the gardens, mowing, greenhouse work, house chores, go over my truck's levels, get boys to and from school, and figure out something for dinner this evening.
