PDC, Bouldering, Yeti, Chores, Pumpkin Bread, Fire, Grilling, Bird, Aurora - Friday

I watched the PDC Euro tour yesterday morning until the first part was over then I drove up the highway to my bouldering area. I was hoping to be there before the heat set in but by 11am it had warmed up significantly.

I scrubbed a few more problems on the main roadside boulders then hiked over to the Gully boulder to see how it had fared the past years. Nicely it has a tree removed from in front of it which opens up the access better. I have a lot to cut back around the base but it won't take but an hour to open up again.

The north face is super cool and has a pair of problems that are super fun to climb. It will take some scrubbing to get the holds cleaned but next time I am at the area it will get done first thing.

I climbed up and around the boulder and lo and behold I found myself a 20oz Yeti tumbler. It is used and it was sitting with nasty inside, but I took it home with me and washed it up and it is ready for my tea this morning. I would NEVER spend $35 on a tumbler like this but to find one for free?! THANK YOU universe.

I then went back and got my climbing shoes on and climbed 5 problems.... THROUGH A SWARM OF MOSQUITOES!!! It was insane. It was a full on swarm of them, as I traversed the herp traverse I moved onto the boulder in the middle and a mass of mosquitoes flew from the side of the rock. It was disgusting and I had to move super fast to keep them from landing on me. I think this was the fastest I have climbed the traverse.

The mosquitoes were a sign, but the humidity was the true tell. Holy balls was it hot despite it only being in the low 70sF. I was soaked by the time I headed for home.

Back home I walked in the door just in time to watch Barney's match which he won in solid fashion. Luke Littler actually lost bad... I got my clothes washed and for the FIRST TIME THIS YEAR was able to hang them outside to dry! Ahh the true signs of summer...

In the afternoon after picking the boys up from school I took R up to his friend's house for a book club get together. They live to the east of us and own a place that used to have a butcher shop that we reconnected with a friend at. Long story but cool connections. While he was there I was back home and got a batch of pumpkin bread made.

My spider plants in the window are doing pretty amazing considering they have ZERO soil. All I do is add water to the dish and they have been growing for over half a year. At some point I will get them in soil.

The pumpkin bread came out DELICIOUS after about 45 minutes at 350F in the oven. I really wanted to have it for today for food for flying but everyone else loves it just as much so they were as excited to have it made.

I was damn close to the 3 3x 17. It was 3 triples and the two stacked into the triple with the VERY satisfying clinking of the darts smacking together.

@stryeyz picked R up on her way home from work and once I got my clothes off the line I got the fire going in the pit while J worked on splitting more wood. I love that he has learned the joy of wood splitting. It is a very real task that gives immediate feedback and a very real sense of accomplishment. One of the things that makes my heart swell.

I grilled our burgers for dinner and made sure to make an extra so I have lunch today while flying.

We got out to soak at normal time and as we sat enjoying the water a bird landed in the tree overhead and was screaming.

IMG_20240510_200120.jpg

Not very visible but it was on the lone branch sticking out to the left in the middle. It was screaming the same song over and over. It was SUPER loud and very clear and we tried whistling back at it but it ignored our noise. It finally flew off after well over 5 minutes of screaming.

It was interesting listening to the ham radio and talk of how people are working the various frequencies during the aurora. People have managed contacts half way around the globe during these events thanks to the super charged atmosphere.

We headed out to watch for the aurora and didn't get much of a display. It was there but not very bright as we watched to the north. It seems it didn't really kick in until after midnight when I was well and fast asleep.

Today I go fly at Tekoa! I am super excited for this as we will have at least 8 of the club members there and a few VERY experienced pilots that I am going to try to follow into thermals. My goal for today is a flight lasting longer than an hour... My longest to date is 15 minutes at the same site last year. My mind is much more at ease now with my wing and I don't fear the feeling of lift, I'm now on the hunt for it. I can't wait to get in the air!!!

I’ve had spider plants live in jars of water for up to a decade. Just to remember to add water….

It helps it sits right above my espresso/tea maker so I see it every morning and can add a bit of water from my tea making. The really are in that transition between air plants and rooted plants.

Sometimes, I always wonder how you have enough strength to work everyday
Kudos!

35 Dollars is to expensive for me, just for a tumbler? Wow, I really amazed of it. By the way, they you cook and grilling is very unique, piles of bricks added with burned charcoal, and there you go its time to grilled.
