Most of the time, I find myself exploring Phuket alone, wandering through its bustling streets, or sitting quietly in cafes, lost in my thoughts. Solitude had become a comfortable routine for me. However, this pattern changed recently when my niece came to visit during her university break.
Eager to make the most of her visit, I planned a series of adventures to showcase the beauty and charm of Phuket. We spent our days visiting the many stunning beaches, each with its unique allure. The sun-kissed sand and the rhythmic sound of the waves provided the perfect backdrop for our conversations and laughter. In between our beach excursions, we explored the vibrant cafe culture of the island, sampling delicious pastries and aromatic coffees at various spots.
Today, I decided to share one of my personal favorites with her, a seaside gem close to my home. "The Cockle Cafe & Eatery" was just a short walk away, a place I often frequented for its inviting ambiance and comforting familiarity.
The Cockle Cafe & Eatery is a minimalist haven, its design emphasizing white tones with door and window edges trimmed in warm brown. Large windows by the sea offer a stunning view of the ocean, making it an idyllic spot to relax. The cafe sells a delightful array of drinks, bakery items, and food, catering to a variety of tastes. Today, we decided to focus on the drinks.
We settled into our seats in the third zone, the sound of the waves creating a soothing background to our conversation. We each ordered a drink and spent the afternoon sitting and admiring the stunning sea view. As we talked about various stories from her university life and my experiences in Phuket, we noticed some local villagers by the edge of the nearby river, where the water had receded.
The villagers were placing wooden containers on the muddy banks and moving them quickly forward. It looked like they were searching for shrimp, shellfish, crabs, and fish in the shallow waters. This simple, age-old method of gathering seafood was fascinating to watch, adding another layer of charm to our visit.
As the day drew to a close, we left The Cockle Cafe & Eatery with smiles on our faces and a promise to return. It had been a day of new memories, blending the comfort of familiar places with the joy of sharing them with someone special. The cafe, which had been a solitary retreat for me, now held the warmth of our shared moments, making it even more special.
