Hello, Hivians and Foodies!

I'm here to tell you about another foodie experience I had in Bogota when I visited it a few months ago. I had this post in draft for a few weeks now, so it's about time I tell you that I tried the Colombian Arepa de Huevo, or arepa e' huevo as it is also called.

Venezuelans and Colombians have a long history of debate over who claims the origin of the arepa. I sincerely believe that neither is right and both are right, lol. The arepa is from both countries as we share a lot of history in common, but each has its particular way of making arepas.

I have tried arepas in Colombia and although to be honest, I don't dislike them I prefer my Venezuelan arepas. But for a long time, I was curious to try what they call Arepa de huevo. I have friends who love it and told me that if I visit Colombia I should try it. The truth is that I had been there a few times and I never had the chance to try this type of arepas that are typical on the Colombian coast. However, when I was in Bogota in January, two blocks from where I was staying there was a place that sold specialties from the coast. So that was my chance!

On the last day of my stay in Bogota, I went to try it. The place is called Cañaguate. They offer many specialties from the Colombian coast, I would have loved to try several things, but my conscience would not allow me to get so many fried things, hehe. So I went straight to the point and ordered an Arepa de Huevo.

I went in the middle of the morning and the place was a bit empty. But everything looked clean.

I waited for them to prepare my order. After a while, they brought me a Tinto (black coffee) and the Arepa de huevo (egg arepa) with a milk whey portion to spread on it.

The face of crime. 😂 Because I was going to eat a fried arepa.

And the bite. The arepa de huevo as the name suggests is an arepa filled with an egg and then fried. So it is like a fried arepa stuffed with a fried egg.

This is the tastiest Colombian arepa I've ever eaten. But I still prefer my Venezuelan-style arepas, grilled and stuffed with any filling you can think of. But it's totally worth trying the arepa e'huevo if you go to Colombia.

Have you ever tried it?

Thank you for reading!

¡Hola Hivianos y Foodies!

So it was made from egg?
Yet I was curious so I searched and find a lot of version of.

Arepas are made with corn flour. They can be eaten roasted, baked, grilled, or fried. And in Venezuela, we usually eat them stuffed. They are very tasty.
Take a look at this one for example https://peakd.com/hive-100059/@coquicoin/an-arepin-sandwich-for-breakfast

The base (which supposed bread is was arepas instead?)

Is that ready made? Or you can make one home made?

Yes! It's an area.

Is that ready made? Or you can make one home made?

We usually make them at home. They sell a precooked corn flour that is very easy to make. You add water, a little bit of oil, and salt and you make the dough immediately.

I suddenly searched bout arepa.. I think it's a nice food hehe .

Arepas are tasty, they are made with corn flour although now there are those who make them with many other ingredients such as plantains, yucca, sweet potatos. But the original ones are made with corn flour and can be eaten roasted, grilled, baked or fried.

It's similar to what we call baduya in our dialect..

Your baduya looks like what we call Mandocas. These are also made with corn flour but mixed with plantain and fried. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandoca

Bon appetit then!!!! :) Lovely post!

Pues buen provecho!!!! :) Encantador post!

How are you dear friend @coquicoin good morning
It is the first time that I read about the dispute over the origin of arepas, and that there are egg arepas.
It's good that you have finally tried this variety of arepas and it has been very satisfying to try them.
I appreciate that you have let us know about this experience and the beautiful place you have visited.
Have a splendid day

I haven't try it, but it looks delicious. I don't know if they have the version of it here.
