Midnight Musings: Why I Turned into an Energizer Bunny at Bedtime

in Mental Healthlast month

Oh, the joys of perimenopause! One day, you're the life of the party, buzzing with energy, and the next, you find yourself staring at the ceiling at 3 AM wondering if Netflix has added any new documentaries on snails. It's an exhilarating ride, isn't it? Welcome to my world—where sleep is a fickle friend and hormones play hide and seek.

Sleep? What’s That?

During perimenopause, your body decides to rewrite the sleep rulebook. Just when you thought you could catch some Z's after a tiring day, your internal thermostat goes haywire, and hot flashes haul you out of dreamland. The fluctuating estrogen levels love to keep you guessing – will I sleep tonight or turn into a philosopher pondering the mysteries of the universe in the wee hours?

The Emotional Rollercoaster

As if sleepless nights weren’t entertaining enough, let's talk about the emotional theme park! One minute you're laughing at a corny joke, and the next, you're tearing up over a commercial featuring a happy puppy. Emotional disbalance? More like emotional gymnastics!

The Vanishing Waistline

Oh, and we mustn't forget the mysterious case of the vanishing waistline. It seems like all those years of maintaining a certain weight were just a rehearsal for this grand disappearing act. Thanks, hormones, for the extra padding—I guess this means more of me to love!

Empty Nest, Full Fridge

Just when you're getting used to the hot flashes and mood swings, the kids decide it’s time to fly the coop. With the children leaving the nest, you might find yourself wondering, "What’s next for me?" Besides, who's going to eat all the leftovers now? And I need to change all the rooms again

Finding Your New Identity

Finding your new identity during this whirlwind period can be as challenging as finding a comfortable sleeping position at night. It's a time to explore new hobbies, rekindle old passions, or even take up underwater basket weaving if that floats your boat!

To Sum It Up

So, if you find yourself wide awake at 3 AM, know you’re not alone. Perhaps consider it a clandestine club meeting of the perimenopausal party-goers. And remember, while perimenopause can feel like a peculiar prank by nature, it's also a perfect time to rediscover and reinvent yourself—complete with laughter, some extra love handles, and yes, maybe a bit of wine to toast those new adventures.

Remember, it’s not insomnia—it’s just a spontaneous late-night party hosted by your hormones!

Shaping the body structure demids alot of exercise

Welk, I took this year for eating different and exercising differently. Yoga and classical ballet more than fitness and lifting. I lost 15 kilograms doing that. It really is true what you said, thanks for the reply

Your welcome

All of life's stages, yeah?
You should catch some quality sleep, though.

So true 😅

Yes! More of you to love!!! Would be nice if you could get some sleep though ;-)

My wife is experiencing this at the moment, the complexity of biology. She is eating a lot of yogurt at the moment? Is that a thing?

I think there should be a balance in everything.

I understand why
