Social Media Mistake: It's Not The Follower Count, It's the Engagement - On Ecency

Hi there dear friends on Ecency and all other Frontends on Hive. It's TheRingMaster and I wanted to share a secret most people are not aware of about social media and that certainly includes Web3 platforms like this very platform you're reading my blog on, Hive.

The funny and very obvious thing is that these days, many people think success on social media is about having a large number of followers or numerous likes. This notion is pervasive and makes it seem like the only way to succeed online. However, I have a different view about the whole thing. My personal belief is that the true standard of social media success is not measured by the number of followers or likes one gets but rather by how much attention one attracts.

Anyone that observes my Hive account would probably already know this routine of mine;

  • Every morning, I begin my day with a simple yet significant ritual. I sit down and answer all the messages that come to me. In case there are those who follow me for the first time, I make sure they received personal messages from me.

One new friend I made last week was @geekgirl . The funny thing was that I was seeking more friends and sent a funny gif seeking attention from her and she actually followed me.

Right after she did that, I immediately sent her a message on one of her posts thanking her for following me and supporting my blogs.

Not just any thank you, but my sincere feelings which will get them know how excited I am about connecting with them. I believe It is very important for this personalized conversation because it means that I value their concern and would love to make a genuine connection.

In my honest opinion, getting involved is the main thing when it comes to being successful on social media. It’s not about having 10,000 or 50,000 followers or a blue tick for verification purposes only. While these milestones are great, they should not be the ultimate goal. Instead of this, it would be better to connect and engage with those who follow you as this is an original objective.

I always endeavor to be deliberate in these exchanges or chats so that I make them aware that I cherish them as human beings rather than mere digits appearing on the display.

Focusing on engagement helps create a community. I believe this is something @ecency really understands s a concept of building a solid community.

This group of people genuinely likes what you post about, interacts with your posts and supports your journey. These are your loyal followers; they will stick around even during bad times, share your posts and help your account grow organically. Such growth that occurs naturally is far more valuable than simply watching one’s follower count increase without any substantial interactions.

I really love the engagement and especially when I'm seeing the people that follow me, comment my blogs because it's proof that my content matters.

To me, nothing works best when it comes to making my time on social media much meaningful and enjoyable than this approach. I end up getting a better knowledge of those who follow me whenever I interact with them. This includes their hobbies, problems they face and accomplishments. That is why I now find being present on the internet very fulfilling. It’s not like I’m addressing some anonymous audience but talking to real people.

I know how easy it is to want to have many followers. We can all be tempted by the pursuit of more numbers whether it is likes or followers as social media platforms emphasize such measurements. But for me, the reason why we are all there should never leave our mind. For me, it’s about connection. It’s about sharing my thoughts, experiences, and journey with others.

I can construct more genuine relationships with my followers if I put engagement first. Consequently, this will enhance the quality of interactions and create an atmosphere of meaningful exchanges. I hold that this is what social media success is.

If you want to improve your social media presence, I suggest concentrating on engagement instead of numbers. Commence by replying to comments and messages. Show your followers that they are not just a number in a list for you. Be decisive in your dealings with others. Spend time finding out about who follows you and let them know something about yourself.

The social media is a link tool. It could be an avenue to create a network of people who are passionate about the same things as you are. Never stray away in the chase for more followers or likes. Rather, strive to make every interaction meaningful and develop actual friendships. This way, your experience on social media will be much more gratifying.

The aim of social media should not be to use only engage with those who follow you but also to engage with them properly. Here one has to take time to respond to messages, interact deliberately and treat your followers as individuals. By so doing, it becomes possible to build a close-knit community which offers support and then become successful on social media for real.

I end by saying thank you for reading guys, I really appreciate your time spent on my blog. Can't wait to get your feedbacks.

So very true! The simple truth is that social media is about being social. Hive gives us a very unique opportunity to make friends with people all around the world. Not only do we get to travel and see all the tourists sites in other countries, but unlike those tourists, we get to see into people's backyards and see what is on their kitchen tables!
For me, making friends here is better than buying a plane ticket!

Wow such a powerful statement you made at the end of your comment.Mel; making friends here is better than buying a plane ticket.

What I shared in the blog, I'm learned from Ecency and Hive..and comparing to Platforms like TikTok and YouTube and Facebook... Thank you so much for all you do Mel🥰🥰

Some excellent points here ! I can be really terrible about engagement, it's so easy after a hard day at work to just scroll through hitting the upvote button, and takes real focus to leave useful comments.

But on the flip-side, I see a lot of it in reverse. Quite a few of my posts are creative writing, and they generally get decent upvotes which are nice from an HP earnings perspective, but very few comments. Most of those are pretty basic, along the "nice post" lines, but the ones I really value are the ones that give me feedback on my writing style, or whether the storyline works or could be improved.

Absolutely my good friend... First and foremost thanks so much for reading and for sharing your comments.

You're so right and while Upvotes will definitely help out HP I believe the real value we should be focusing on is getting our messages across the platform.. creating value from our writing or blogs.

I'm glad you understand my perspective... I'm literally at the top of engagement leaderboard and it has done so much good for me...

Thank you so much my dearest for this compliment..... And your business will definitely stay solid with this strategy 🥰🥰🥰🥰 all the best wishes for you

As usual friends😃
I really like reading your posts. because I can gain very useful knowledge.

Social media is a means of transportation that can take us to explore the world. Without having to go to that place, we can already know what's happening, and social media is not only for interacting with people who follow you, but also for interacting with them properly. It's really amazing friends, keep sharing knowledge💪💪💪💪

Wow riyat you absolutely nailed this one.... I like your point on social media being a transportation... Thank so much for the comment, really appreciate it man

Every morning, I begin my day with a simple yet significant ritual. I sit down and answer all the messages that come to me.

I believe it's a matter of respect to answer the messages that come your way, especially if they take time to make some thoughtful comments, so I'm glad you have this approach.

I don't expect someone who receives hundreds or thousands of messages to answer them all. Maybe if they hire someone to do it for them. But otherwise, this is what social media should be about - engagement, interactions. Votes, followers are or should be a consequence, not something we should expect first or unconditional.

For example, I have a relatively big upvote that probably automatically upvotes my posts. I remember having a good conversation with the guy at some point on one of my posts, I even helped him understand something about our ecosystem, and after a while I saw these upvotes coming in regularly. And I saw he upvotes quite a few less visible authors he probably feels are under rewarded (I got that feeling from the discussion with him).

Wow what an awesome experience.. this has actually happened to me last week... I spoke with one of the dolphins and orcas and I now see consistent Upvotes from them... Thanks so much... I'm actually taking your comment as an advice for myself., to keep engaging 🥰

I’ve been on TikTok for nearly 5 years. I didn’t gain a massive following, but I found the right audience for me. Intellectuals, PHDs, specialists, etc. and I found I raise my reputation within those social circles.

That's a powerful achievement Shaidon... Absolutely respect your accomplishments good friend 🥰🥰🥰

Engagement is the way to go, I started out with it, and I got to learn how do it better, I got better with time, again and again. Whoever says engagement don't pay hasn't tried doing it well.

You're 💯 correct man... Wow this was literally the whole point I'm trying to make... You basically wrote my entire blog in 2 lines😂😂😂💯💯💯 you're the best bruv

The quality of a conversation can definitely go further than the amount of conversations had. You already know this but spreading this idea is key to creating more deep interactions from participant to participant that goes beyond the 'Big Number' mentality that many think is the point of having an account online.

Thank you for sharing your insight and thoughts. It's a refreshing take on how social media could be utilized for a greater cause.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the compliment, you're absolutely right on. Quality of engagement though
