Hello Hive

So yesterday was Mother's Day, and I wasn't left out of the fun. After I had penned down some tribute to my mom on hive here we all went to church, where the Mother's Day celebration continued. Our pastor made a call for people to celebrate their wives and for the children to celebrate their mothers for all the love and sacrifice they make for us. A little show and exchange of gifts happened, and sometimes we even cut cakes to celebrate the women in church.

While that was going on, little did I know that my little sister, who was 12 years old, was watching keenly. Upon reaching the house, she broke her clay piggyvest and went in search of a gift for me. She did that behind my back, knowing fully well I wouldn't have allowed her to do that. Well, I'm not her mother, but she recognized the mothey role I have been playing in her life ever since our mom's demise as she was barely 3 years old then.

I have been taking care of her ever since day one of her life, I learnt the responsibility motherhood and how take care of a babies 🍼 because mum got sick right after giving birth to her, she was hospitalized for months and I had to use artificial milk and every other means to take care of my sister at home while mum remained in the hospital before we eventually lost her some 2years later

In the end, my little sister, whom I am fond of calling "Ene Baby," bought me a mother's day gift. She forever remains my baby, and the bond between us is more like that of a that of a mother and daughter than that of siblings.

After all, being a mother is not only in giving birth but also a show of love, care, kindness, and affection for everyone around us, most especially children. I love and celebrate my baby,Ene and I had always made sure that she gets a gift on every birthday. She doesn't feel the absence of our momma that much.

What can I make of a fabric that is already pretty in itself?
My sister has some good eyes; I must comment on her. I wanted to sew and wear this almost immediately, and because it was a lovely fabric in itself, I decided to sew a stylish crop top.

A crop top because my I still want to slay, I'm not going to sew a motherlike dress.
I really wander why some mother's don't take care of themselves after having babies. Women should love and adore themselves, look good at all times and do everything possible to regain their beautiful nature even after having many kids. Home keeping shouldn't be the reasons we should leave ourselves unkept. Look out for yourselves and don't engage in rigorous stress.

We have lost a lot of mother's to untimely death because of over engagement and responsibility and we desire that more women live long to enjoy their children.

Folding the fabric I cut the front and back pieces here. It is a cut-together top; hence, the sleeve length was included.

The necklines were made wide enough because I wouldn't want a zipper or button at the back.

Too much sewing will disrupt the flower 🌹🌺 patterns all over the dress

For a neat finishing, I got a bias strip for the necklines.
And since the bias was a red one, I creatively turned the necklines out instead of turning it in as it is the norm so that the bias could add more color to the top.

While doing that, I found a different color of fabric with the same pattern at the hem of the fabric.

This made me think of how I can possibly mix different patterns or clothes to make one piece.
Sometimes we mix different colors, and other times it's a different pattern.

Here are the two different fabrics with similar patterns and the same design.

I used the smaller piece to hem the top and to serve as a form of contrasting yet attractive design, and the other piece I was going to make a rose with it and placed it on the chest of my top, but I gently placed it in this manner to see how it looks first.

My top is ready, and guess what? I had it on all through yesterday and will be heading out in it this morning as well.

I am specifically grateful to myself for all the good women that have been playing the motherly role in my life, even on the hive here. There are some mothers who have been a blessing in my life with their support, and encouragement.
I appreciate you all, belated Mother's Day family.
