Hello SPL family

Another week, another set of Battle Mage secrets. This week's highlighted ruleset heavy hitters. In this ruleset, all units have a knockout ability. To trigger the knockout ability the enemy must be in stun status. Make sure that you must include a unit with stun ability to trigger the knockout ability. To ensure you stun the enemy, use a magic attacker with a stun ability or a physical attacker with a true strike ability to guarantee that your attack won't miss. Currently, the only monster with both true strike and stun abilities is Septic Slime from the Fire Element Riftwatcher edition card.

SEPTIC SLIME

Septic Slime has a stun ability at Level 1 and an additional true strike ability at Level 10 or max level. It's great to use in the heavy hitters ruleset, especially when combined with the equal opportunity, super sneak, and reverse speed rules. Because of its true strike and stun abilities, the knockout ability of the unit will trigger 100% of the time.

The battle I will show comes from the SPS Dao Free Tournament. This is the Poseidar Wild Silver Invitational where I only placed 85th and received a 23.6 SPS reward. One of my matches had heavy hitters ruleset, so I chose it to demonstrate how I won our battle.

BATTLE CONDITION

The battle condition is 49 mana caps and the elements that you can use are fire, death, and, dragon. The rulesets are ferocity, heavy hitters and going the distance.

For this battle, I chose Akane as the summoner, a dragon summoner with either the lookup or ambush ability. I selected ambush so that Drybone Raider can attack twice before the battle even begins.

For the first position, I chose Torch Myrmidon, a ranged attacker with flank and close range abilities. Since one of the rulesets is "going the distance," where only ranged attackers can be used, Torch Myrmidon is a suitable tank because his close range ability allows him to attack even from the front position. Torch Myrmidon's flank ability also enables Drybone Raider to attack from the second position.

For the second position, I chose Drybone Raider, a dual attacker with both ranged and melee attacks, featuring double strike and shatter abilities. Drybone Raider's shatter ability can destroy the enemy's armor in a single hit.

In the third position, I chose Flame Mephit, a ranged attacker with a flying ability.

For the fourth position, I chose Supply Runner, a ranged attacker with the swiftness ability, which grants an additional +1 speed to all units as long as he is alive.

In the fifth position, I chose Ash Mirage, a ranged attacker with the headwind ability, which reduces the enemy's ranged damage by -1.

Lastly, I chose Rush Townsend, a ranged attacker with ambush and affliction abilities. The ambush ability allows him to attack immediately before the battle begins.

I chose the ambush ability from Akane so that before the battle even begins, my units will already make 6 attacks: 4 attacks from Drybone Raider due to his dual attack and double strike abilities, and 1 attack from Ash Mirage. Since Rush Townsend also has the ambush ability, he will attack before the battle starts as well.

AMBUSH!!!

During the ambush, my Drybone Raider immediately killed the enemy's Drybone Raider, so at the start of Round 1, the enemy was already down one unit.

In Round 1, my units killed two enemy units right away. First, Rush Townsend killed the enemy's Marksratt, and then Drybone Raider killed the enemy's War Chaang.

In Round 2, Rush Townsend killed Fire Caller. Due to Fire Caller's martyr ability, Lava Launcher gained +1 to all stats, which allowed it to survive the attacks because of the stat boost from the martyr ability. In Round 3, the enemy could no longer survive and their damage was insufficient, so the battle ended in Round 3.

  • Overall, my plan to use the ambush ability from Akane was a success. At the start of the battle, the enemy already lost a unit.

  • Ash Mirage's headwind ability also helped by reducing the enemy's ranged attackers' damage by -1.

  • Torch Myrmidon's flank ability was beneficial as well, allowing Drybone Raider to attack from the 2nd position and use both melee and ranged attacks simultaneously. If Drybone Raider were placed in the front, only his melee attack would benefit from the double strike ability.
