It was only a 25 minute drive there yesterday morning across the prairie then down by the river. I was parked before 8:30 and Brendan was waiting for me already.
We got our gear and began the hike up the hill.
A nice herd of turkeys were moving through the woods and there was at least 5 big toms. They booked it off out of our way quickly.
We took the trail out to the overlooks to check them out.
They look out over the Little Spokane river and to the south.
We had a young deer follow us for a lot of the way as we hiked. It probably gets fed so is a lot more used to humans.
We continued the hike to the top and popped out of the trees to this view.
Hiking to the top top I came across this amazing snake sunning itself. We gave it a wide berth and let it stay motionless.
The top with an absolutely amazing launch site to the south and west.
The winds were picking up and we got setup. I launched into a nice little cycle and managed to get myself out and into the air.
I was focused on the terrain and trying to find any bits of lift I could. I aimed for the ridge in hopes it would give me something but I got only a blip.
So I aimed nw some and as I got over the base of the upper hill I caught myself a thermal.
I felt the wing lift and I began my turn and managed 2 full 360 turns in the thermal before I lost it.
After losing the thermal I decided to work my way towards the LZ and hoped I would have enough lift along the ridge.
I was able to float along above tree level right over the highway all the way along the ridge until I got to the landing.
I made a harder right turn to get out over the field.
But then had to make a 360 quickly to lose altitude.
Came in for a very nice and gentle landing.
Brendan had launched and soon he was landed near by.
So then we got Rangersplained that it apparently is a state park. Ranger was super chill so no big deal but no flying at an absolutely incredible site. Washington state really does suck giant dog dicks. Just another shit hole state run by the coast. It really is pathetic the number of laws and rules that do nothing but yet NEVER get repealed or removed. Just look at the number of antiquated laws that refuse to get changed still.
Got home in time to watch the Man Utd match. I don't know why but I did. In a chance miracle they actually won the match. Not that it does anything for the standings at least it might be a feelgood moment...
In the afternoon I had a doctor appointment which thankfully answered my burning questions. I likely have had an ear infection for a while so have a round of antibiotics to try and kick it in the right direction. It has been maddening. My lymph nodes around my ears have been super sore which explains things more, it's not muscles. I really hope the ABs kick it hard.
Watched the Avs beat up on the Stars while I made dinner then we ate. Got out to soak after a well needed shower and managed less than an hour.
Today I have to go into town before 10 to get labs done, then I will stop at North 40 for gas line parts, then gas in the truck. I have to get back to grass cutting around the farm, boys to and from school, possibly move the turkeys if they have finished their feeder, PDC is on mid day, I need to reseed a few rows, then come up with dinner this evening.
