Her eyes, a welcoming pool among many faces
And I, a young and poor foot soldier
Bereft of fortune, saddled with debts
Must answer to every command her father gives
Gladly I serve, a lowly ranking soldier to the General
So I can glimpse her beautiful face beside him

Her eyes were the most stunning of all
Bright, sparkly, coloured like polished amber
I gape like an almost-dying fish, wanting to tell her so
The General's blade to my chin, a warning
Followed by a trickle of blood silences me
Yet she knows, her eyes say it all

Her eyes, warm and sweet, beckons to my courage
To do what a sturdy man would do
I look away for fear of my life at the blade's edge
Her eyes, big and round as the moon
Tears me into stripe from within
I weep silently at the accusation in the amber pools

Her eyes, big and dark, dance wildly in my dreams
I awake with a gasp and a smile
My courage firm as ever for I have nothing to lose
I'd rather go to the dark depths
Having known her sweet love and warm embrace
Than exist and watch the hurt in her eyes

Her eyes, wide and bright, like silver coins
Twinkle in surprise as my arms envelope her in love
My thoughts blending with hers,
As I count the stars and galaxies in her eyes
My affections mirroring hers, yet I wanted more
Run away with me, I cajole

Her eyes, wide and frantic, warns me
But not fast enough before the cold blade appears
And slices through me faster than light
Her eyes not leaving mine, tears slipping out of them
I attempt a smile as I descend into the depths
Enamoured by her beautiful eyes, I laugh at death.

Soooo, Jesus wasn't the only one who died for love afterall! A character in this poem, is gone all because of a fleeting moment of an embrace. May his poor soul RIP.

May his poor soul RIP.

😆 Very funny!

Fleeting embrace, true but the soldier loved the general's daughter. Sadly the disparity in their status made it impossible for them to be together. I think that's a love worth dying for, yes? Hehe. Thanks so much for your visit and comment. !LADY
