GOD'S UNENDING SEARCH FOR RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE

📖 TODAY'S TEXT:

Genesis 18:16-32

🔑 KEY VERSE:

And Abraham drew near and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?" (Genesis 18:23).

🖊️ COMMENTARY

Sodom and Gomorrah supposedly had great minds and names in their numbers, unfortunately God did not see even ten men among them to consider their righteousness and spare the cities from destruction. The few righteous men when found in our midst are good enough to serve as God's agents of rescue to the distressed, oppressed, depressed, obsessed, suppressed and possessed generation that is neck deep in iniquities.

In every generation, God desires righteous men through whom His name will be exalted and for whose sake sinners are spared from destruction.
Where there is no righteousness, God cannot be found! Imagine what happens in a place when there is no presence of God! Sodom and Gomorrah is a typical example. Whenever there is a lack of righteous people, God is displeased and His judgment follows.

Ezekiel 22:30 says, "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none." The next verse says that as a result, God poured His indignation on the people. Families, communities, cities, towns, nations and churches need righteous people always.

May God not lack righteous men where you and I are planted! May our lands, churches, communities and nation be spared because of us, just as Lot and his family were saved out of Sodom and Gomorrah because of Abraham. The devastation we see happening in some countries today is as a
result of rejection of righteousness. Many developed countries today have ceased to acknowledge God and are sitting on a time bomb, awaiting explosion of wrath in one form or another. May we never be caught in such explosions in Jesus name.
