They are indeed in their infancy. The big risk I see is that by implanting a chip into the brain is a surgical procedure, and with any surgery there can be a chance of infection. Encephalitis is not something I would be willing to risk to have a chip in my head, plus chances of toxicity from the metals in the chip itself...
