My review of Bramble The Mountain King

in Hive Gaming2 months ago (edited)
I started playing this game after I saw a lot of videos of it on Tik Tok. I was so excited and thought it would be a little bit more cozy than it actually was. Don't get me wrong. I like the game, but it became so scary at some point.

The game is based on Nordic mythology and fairy tales, and some of them is also well known for bedtime stories I had in my childhood. Like the Nix and Pesta.

The game is about Olle that is going to find his sister, Lillemor, after she have been taken by a troll. There is a lot of scary trolls and creatures to overwin, and that can actually be kind of hard. Some of them more annoying than hard, and you really have to use your brain. Sometimes turn your brain inside out. You will get the story told as you play, so you easy understand the fary tale as you move.

When we think about fairy tales we may remember them as cozy bedtime stories from our childhood. Or I do. But what it was really about is scary creatures and dark stories that we never learned when we was young. But this game captures both of those good and scary worlds.

The game have big contrasts from when its really cozy, and all of a sudden becomes really scary. I actually had to stop play it for a while because it was too scary for me. One of the things that got me back to the game is the story and how beautiful the game was made.

Some of the cute features are the small gnomes, their role is to help Olle as best as they can to find his sister. But it doesn't always end good for the gnomes. Without any spoilers: If you can play this game without feel bad for the gnomes at any point, there must be something wrong with you. Because they are so CUTE.

Olle was riding this cute hedgehog through the water.

Who can't love a small little gnome?

I love the look of it, even tho the filmatic gameplay isn't really my cup of tea. But it fits well in this game. I don't like the filmatic gameplay because I'm not that good at playing it. There was some places I didn't know where to walk because of it. And I couldn't just hold the "W" to walk forward, but change from where the view was. This is just a prefrence and for some people it's just perfect.

What you have seen of pictures of Bramble will now change. Because when the gameplay gets dark, it gets really dark. And a big part of the game Olle have to light up the room with a small ball of light to see what's there, and you use the same ball of light to overwin all the horrific creatures. And sometimes it will atrackt creatures that can kill him. You never know what's around the next corner.

Even tho I turned off the game a few times, did I really liked this game. It has a great story. If you don't know Nordic mythology/folk lores you will get to know some of them through this one.

I can recommend it to most people that likes games like this. I come from playing the Sims 4 and some shooting games, so this may not be as scary for you as it was for me. I have no problem with spooky series or scary movies either, but it's something else when I play games like this myself. Just expect an emotional rollercoster.

Exploring and trying to overwin Pesta.

The dark side.

Would you try out this game?

The dark style of this video game is amazing, I loved the part where the huge creature held you up in its hand

The folk lore says that trolls turn to stone if they are getting sun on themself, and that happened in that picture. There is so many cool screenshots from this game.

Amazing screenshots. Very creepy atmosphere in that last one.

Thank you so much :D

It looks like a nice Adventure game. Have a beautiful photography composition inside! I love the last pic of the dark side of the forest!

Yes it is. I can recommend it if you like adventure games.

For sure, thanks!
