A lot of hardware for an old laptop.

I'm slowly bettering my setup

My Dad gave me an old laptop almost two years ago when the pandemic was starting, because the motherboard in my old tower PC had fried. The laptop I got was good and I was okay with it, but I noticed so many things I couldn't do, though I was frustrated I decided to be okay with it since it was better than nothing at all.

The laptop I was given was a Positivo BGH E900, which I had until about 5 months ago. I switched it for a different laptop that was also used and old that I'm still using to this day. This laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad z710 which has 16gb of ram with an Intel I7 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 745M, and it may not be the best laptop out there but with it I can run some pretty killer games!

But my favorite part about it, even though it may seem a little silly or perhaps underwhelming, is the light up keyboard. :)

There is usually problems in every computer though, like bugs and glitches we don't understand so therefore we cannot fix (if anyone can help me, it would be very appreciated), one problem is the GPU software and I'll be completely honest, I don't fully understand what's going on with it, but checking in the device manager I see two GPU's that the computer is reading, the actual NVIDIA GPU and an Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600

I don't actually know why, but, the computer overheats and crashes if I have the NVIDIA GPU enabled and it runs fine if I only enable the Intel GPU, which has its problems since a few months ago I was playing around with TeknoParrot trying to play Initial D Arcade Stage 8 and it didn't work because it was incompatible with Intel GPU's, other than that the computer has a few small bugs but it's nothing to worry about.

Recently I got a EVGA Z20 keyboard for the computer and it's my first mechanical keyboard which is very nice and it's RGB so I'm having a lot of fun programming different presets for the colors and patterns haha.

I am considering getting a Logitech steering wheel since I really enjoy sim racing games and I have Assetto Corsa, but it'll be a cheap one since I don't really have the money for something good like a G29 or anything similar.

I got the picture from the site that I'm going to get the wheel from

Hopefully I can make enough Hive to pay me back for it since I'm planning on making content more with it other than having fun.

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed the post, and I hope to see you next post. :)

The G29 is worth it. It's amazing with Dirt Rally. Based on your last post, you might enjoy that game. The first one, not Dirt Rally 2 which was a let down. But if that PS2 wheel works, including the force feedback, that's awesome. Nice account name, by the way :)

If you're brave enough to open it, you might be able to fix the overheating issue by getting dust out of the heatsink that hooks up to the GPU. Most laptops have disassembly/assembly instruction videos on YouTube. Another thing you could try without opening it is using MSI Afterburner to underclock and undervolt (a little) the GPU.

I'd love to get the G29 but it's pretty far out of my budget, that's why I went for something cheaper, but I think the PS2 wheel doesn't have force feedback which is a need by what I've been seeing, I may get something different or continue with what I have now which is a Dual Shock 4 that I set up so that the gyroscope does the steering, it's been working but I thought that a wheel would make the experience lot better. Hopefully I can increase my budget and get a G29 from the Hive posts.

About the laptop, I have taken it apart before and found no issues internally, it's clean and in good shape, but it didn't fix the problem, I do like the MSI afterburner idea which I will try but first I'll do some research to make sure I don't mess anything up haha. Thanks for the idea and info on the G29, I hope you have a good week and see you next post. ;)
