And the second and third pictures are when I discovered the buds.
One morning when I went to water it, I found a bud on it.
I thought to myself, "Wow, it's grown so far! It's growing so well! I almost started dancing (lol).
I had not been able to do any balcony gardening or bay window gardening last year, so it had been a long time since I had grown vegetables and seen them grow, so I was really happy.
This is what the balcony vegetable garden looks like these days.
It is getting crowded.
Stem broccoli is growing like crazy.
I decided to grow colorful leaves (mixed lettuce) and arugula on the balcony as well as Micro Green indoors, and transplanted the colorful leaves and arugula that had germinated on kitchen paper onto vermiculite.
This method was also successful, and I was able to harvest lettuce and arugula that grew strongly in the sun outdoors, so it seems that there is no need to worry for a while with the system of transplanting whole pieces of kitchen paper.
There is one more convenient thing about transplanting the whole kitchen paper, and that is that this way, "even if it is windy, the vermiculite will not be blown away by the wind.
I found a bud when I was watering in the morning, and when I went to look at the balcony garden for a moment when I was having coffee before lunch, to my surprise, it was already in flower!
It still looked like a hard bud, but a few hours later it bloomed.
I was working from home that day and happened to see the blooming before noon.
If I had gone to work as usual, I might not have been able to see the blooms because my return time is sometimes after 6:00 p.m.
I was lucky.
Blooming flowers of the plants I grow... this is really impressive, and I also stared at the flowers for a while because I hadn't had this experience in a long time, and I felt that this kind of experience is the reason why I want to grow vegetables every year.
And a few days later, the green beans bore fruit.
This is about one week after flowering. It seems so fast.
As a matter of fact, two days after the blooming, the weather forecast called for stormy weather, and I had to put the plants that were about to fall over into the room.
I also have hydroponic tomatoes in the balcony garden, but since these are water bottles and are solidly weighted, I moved their position so that they are inside the roof and put them outdoors as they were.
I managed to get the vine-less green beans and stem broccoli inside before it started raining, but some of the pots were blown over by a very strong wind.
In hindsight, it is possible that the strong winds may have helped the pollination process along. I felt that we should be grateful for the action of nature.
And here is a picture after another week.
It has grown very large.
Since this whole process of "buds, flowering, and then discovering green beans" happened so quickly, it seems to me that the actual growth of the fruit is very slow (lol).
Some flowers bloomed and wilted while I was unaware of it, so small green beans were growing here and there, and when I observed them, I thought, "What? When did all these flowers bloom?" I feel like, "When did they bloom like this?
I can't say that all of them will grow big, and in fact, it might be better to leave the ones that are growing well and pick them, but this time, I will try to grow them all, even if they are small.

This is a seedling that I planted in vermiculite instead of growing hydroponically.
It is also growing well, and I just went to the balcony to put up a support pole.

私がHIVEに「蔓なしいんげん」の成長記録をもっとこまめに投稿できていたら良かったのですが、なかなかそうもいかなくて、あっと言う間に花が咲いて豆が実ってしまいました。
開花から結実までがあっと言う間だった、ということもありましたが、植物の成長の様子はこまめに撮影しないとどんどん成長して見逃していまいますね。
動物の成長も、植物の成長も、本当にスピーディに感じる私の毎日です。
1枚目はいんげん豆の苗が随分と大きく育ってきた2週間前頃の写真です。
「蔓なしいんげん」という品種ですが、蔓が全く出ないわけではなく少しは発生します」というふうに種子を入れて販売している袋には説明書いてあったのですが、ここまでほとんど発生しませんでした。
支柱には柔らかい針金で適度に結びつけて育てました。
そして2枚目と3枚目の写真は、蕾を発見した時の写真です。
ある朝、私が水やりに行ったら蕾がついていたのです。
「おお！ここまで育ってきたぞ！」と踊り出しそうになりました(lol)
去年全くベランダ菜園や出窓菜園が出来なかったので、野菜を育てて成長を目の当たりにするということが久しぶりだったので、本当に嬉しかったです。
この頃のベランダ菜園はこんな感じ。
賑やかになってきました。
茎ブロッコリーもじゃんじゃん成長しています。
室内でのMicro Greenだけではなく、ベランダでもカラフルリーフ（ミックスレタス）やルッコラを育ててみようと思い立ち、キッチンペーパーの上で発芽させたカラフルリーフとルッコラをバーミキュライトの上にそのまま移植したりもしました。
この方法も成功して、屋外で太陽をしっかり浴びて強く育ったレタスとルッコラを収穫することができましたから、キッチンペーパーごと移植するというシステムでしばらくは心配なさそうです。
キッチンペーパー丸ごと移植すると便利なことがもうひとつあって、こうすることで「風が強くてもバーミキュライトが風に舞い上がらない」という点です。
朝の水やりの時に蕾を見つけて、お昼前にコーヒーを飲む時にちょっとベランダ菜園を眺めに行ったら、なんともう花が咲いていました！
まだ硬い蕾に見えたのですが、数時間後に開花。
この日は在宅ワークをしていて、たまたまお昼前に開花を見ることができました。
通常のように会社に出勤していたら、私の帰宅時間は18:00以降になることもあるので、花を見ることが出来なかったかもしれません。
ラッキーでした。
育てている植物の花が咲く…これは本当に感動的で、私も久しぶりのこの体験にしばらく花を見つめてしまいましたし、こういう体験が毎年野菜を育てたくなる理由だなぁと感じました。
そして数日後、いんげん豆が実りました。
これは開花から約1週間後です。ものすごく早く感じます。
実は、開花の2日後、嵐のような悪天候になるという天気予報が出て、転びそうな植物たちを部屋の中へ入れたことがありました。
水耕栽培のトマトもベランダ菜園に置いていますが、こちらは水のボトルでしっかり重量があるので、屋根の内側になるように位置を移動させてそのまま屋外に置きました。
蔓なしいんげんや茎ブロッコリーなどは、なんとか雨が降り始める前に室内に入れたのですが、かなり強風に吹かれて倒れている鉢もありました。
今になって考えると、強風に吹かれたことで受粉がうまく行われた可能性があります。自然の作用に感謝しなければ、と感じました。
そしてさらに1週間経過した写真です。
とても大きく育ってきています。
「蕾→開花→いんげん豆が実っているのを発見」というこの流れがあっと言う間の出来事だったので、実際に実をつけてからその実が大きくなっていくのは随分とゆっくりに感じます(lol)
私が気づいていない間に開花して萎んだ花もあるので、小さいいんげん豆があちこちに実っていて、観察していると「えぇ？こんなに花が咲いていたのか、いつの間に？」と感じてしまうくらいです。
全てが大きく育つとは言えませんし、本当は立派に成長しているものを残して摘果した方が良いのかもしれませんが、今回は小さくても良いから全部育ててみようと思います。
最後の写真はミニトマトの苗。
こちらは水耕栽培にせずに、バーミキュライトに植えてみた苗です。
こちらも順調に育っていて、先ほどベランダに行って支柱を立ててきました。
現在、5月の中旬でとても良い季節です。
次々と種まきして育てたいものがあるのですが、私は半月後に1週間丸ごと家を留守にする予定があって、その時期に水やりが欠かせない状況になったり、苗の育成のような繊細な時期が重ならないよう調整しているところです。
そこから帰宅したら収穫と種まきを始めたいと思います。
■ひとこと日記
気温が高くなったり、かと思ったらまた少し涼しくなったりしていますが、今年の5月はかなり過ごしやすく爽やかです。
昨日も今日も、晴れて湿度が低く、本当に過ごしやすい。
ベランダ菜園の植物たちとお天気の話をしながら水やりしています(lol)
