4 Cents

in GEMS16 days ago (edited)

Let's go back to the good old days, the days when one could mail a letter for 4 cents. Yeah, only 4 cents. Today, postage is $1.07. Talk about inflation being out of control! These stamps were issued in 1947, and 1948. The first stamp commemorates the birth of Alexander Graham Bell. Remember him? The inventor of the telephone, back in 1876.
The second stamp commemorates the 80th anniversary of confederation, and citizenship. In 1947, the Canadian government decided to allow any resident, regardless of country of origin, to obtain citizenship.
The 3rd stamp, who is it? Well it is Queen Elizabeth. Issued in early 1948, it commemorates the marriage of the Queen to Prince Philip Mountbatten. The marriage took place on November 20th, 1947. Which is your favourite?

Those are some really nice stamps! I love the way they used to design and color them back in the day. Very cool!

Just like most things, they don’t make em like they used to. Thanks.

According to this site, the current postage price is not far off from the melt value of the equivalent silver in the old 80% coins of that era. Of course, silver would also have a higher price if it were also in demand for use as money, so this conceals even more loss in value, I suspect.

Interesting fact! Metals are a good inflation hedge, as we all know.

Wow... Like a classic paint!!!!

There is ‘something’ about looking at black and white postage stamps that fascinates me!... I think the print way resembles me past times a lot!...

It does really look neat doesn’t it! Thanks for your comment.

Nice, these ones are pretty cool and I like the citizen one of the ones you posted today. Keep these coming, love seeing stamps. Have a blessed one my friend.

Thanks @shoemanchu. Have a blessed one as well.

Greetings @daveks ,

These stamp posts are appreciated...who would have thought so much history could be packed in a post through stamps. Excellent photography...thank you.

It is difficult to pick a favourite as all three have had instrumental impact on history, however the one with most effect on history for me would be the Queen...the best design is the one commemorating Mr. Bell.

Kind Regards,

Cheers!

NB Do you still have a Siamese Cat?

Oh yes, our family cat is still very well and active. Thanks for your comments on the stamps. My favourite is the Alexander Graham Bell stamp btw.

Thank you for your kind reply.

Oh...I am so glad to hear it...bleujay came across two pictures of a Siamese which I was sure were yours.....very handsome...and in Black and White.

I can see why the stamp of Mr. Bell is a fav...such an excellent design and a lot communicated in just one square inch. ^__^

Cheers!

Yes we think he is cute, indeed. Thanks for stopping by.

My favourite the third one. Queen Elizabeth for her stunning looks. But I appreciate the 2nd one, where Canada has allowed for citizenship to natives of other origin. That sounds amazing. Finally my respects for the first stamp as he delivered something very useful to the world.
In Indian curriculum, we got to learn a lot about him. A very valuable share. 👍

Yes once upon a time ago Queen Elizabeth was very young. Of course she has now passed the baton on to Charles. Thanks for the comments.

It is pretty crazy the hit we have taken with inflation and the fact that despite having worse infrastructure to move around it was 4 cents to send.

Our time has been devalued so much and a lot of people don't even see it or understand it fully.

Indeed Brian, very true. We are in for a ride in the coming months for sure.

Going to go with the Graham Bell stamp. Just a nicer design. Was he Canadian?

Inflation is nuts. It feels like shit is just melting down and there is no way to stop it. It definitely feels weird being that guy who says, "Back in my days postage was $0.22!"

Looks like he was born in Scotland, then moved to Canada in his twenties.

Who even sends letters anymore anyways? I send some Christmas cards each year, but thats it.

I don't, but I ship a lot of packages in the US and to Japan and the prices are nuts.

I don't know if I remember ever seeing a picture of Alexander Graham Bell. These are all great stamp designs.

I thought it would be cool to showcase these. Thanks.

Inflation is real.☺️

No doubt about that.

Thank you.😊

Really nice stamps!

Thanks!

Remembering our good old days.

Way before my time, but very interesting to look back in history.
