How we can collectively save the earth via Reduce, recycle and reuse

in CLEAN PLANET15 days ago (edited)

Hello Inleo

For the many times I had embarked on recycling projects in the past with different materials such as fabrics, plastics, and others, the major reason behind these back then was to save financial costs. Not until I realized that the earth has been endangered by a lot of our human activities.

The burning of wood and improper waste disposal have produced a lot of greenhouse gases that have put our earth in danger. The cycle of elements like carbon and the balance of nature have been interfered with, leading to global warming and the natural disasters we face every day.

Although the larger industries play a greater part in the nature of their activities, studies have also shown that as the human population continues to increase, our collective activities across the world are equally having a significant impact on disrupting the earth's balance.

In the past, my major source of cooking fuel has been firewood.
We cut down trees to cook our meal, and imagine just how much that impact will cause. The total number of villages in my state is more than a thousand. When we have all the families from these thousands of villages all burning down wood to cook our meals, that will cause massive deforestation in addition to the release of carbon compounds into the atmosphere. Reducing excessive deforestation and the use of wood by the villages can help our earth.

These days, the only alternative we use for cooking is charcoal. Even though this does not produce a lot of gaseous waste, it causes deforestation since wood is cut down to make charcoal even though we are hoping for better alternative and that more families will be able to afford the less harmless cooking gas. That is just a typical example of how collective human activities affect the earth.

Reusing items reduces the excessive generation of waste materials.

In another instance, improper disposal of waste was another challenge disrupting the earth balance. A lot of plastic waste is released from our homes every day. While advanced countries hava ea general waste bin where the government picks up these wastes and disposes of them more properly, in countries where the masses are uneducated, dumping of refuse in the streets is a common sight. Polybags, nylons, disposables, and plastics are found roaming around the streets before being eventually dumped in the rivers and water bodies, harming the aquatic life. Personally, I have learned how to reuse plastic food cans, disposables, and others. A second and third use of these items ensures that we do not produce too much waste in our homes.

Recycling

Other items in our homes can be recycled, giving items a second use. Pieces of sewing fabric from my workshop often find some good use. Creative processes can turn those waste materials into lovely crafts, ensuring that every piece is put to proper use. I have recycled clothes that could have been thrown away or burned off. One thing that gives me joy is that most of these recycled clothes often find better use in the less fortunate parts of my community. Here is a sample of some recycled outfits, and I bet that you won't believe that the fabric has spent over 8 years already, but it has found a new look and use right after I worked on it.

Enlightening our villages and communities about the concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle is a good way to conserve our natural resources and also reduce the severity of human waste generation for the preservation and sustainability of our earth, as scientific studies have practically shown how human activities are equally affecting the earth in good measure.

This is my submission to the #mayinleo and I'm using this medium to invite other hivers to come and participate in this prompt with a lot of interesting topics via this link
