With the forecast showing no more freezing nights, its time to place four cannabis plants in the ground. They have had a month and a half to grow in the tents, so hopefully they will take off and get quite large by end of year. This will be all new to me as I have never grown cannabis outdoors, but every day I will check on them and make sure they get what they need to do well. With a lot of water and feedings I think they will do well. And the long Virginia summer should give them much time to grow big and without the restriction of the grow tent they can get as large as they want.

Starting off I tilled up the ground around where the cannabis plants will be to keep the competing weeds down. Then I staked the spots where I will drill to make plant holes. Spacing out eight feet apart they should have quite a bit of space. From my reading online six feet seems to be enough but I feel like I may need more since I have topped them twice. And that means they will go more bush like than tree like.
Instead of digging the holes, I will drill them. This auger bit attaches to my skidsteer and I can drill holes the length of the bit. A good three feet id say.

Finding the mark I place the bit on the ground and start the drilling process. Applying pressure as the skidsteer holds it in place the hole is drilled within a minute or less.
Time to bring over the potting soil, I am going to use just about a full bag per hole for these plants.
I noticed caterpillars fell into the hole, I had these drilled out for a couple days so interesting to see what wandered in there.
After a few holes are full I use extras from the other bags to fill on the deeper drilled holes. I did not measure how deep to drill, just up to the length of the bit. Though that can be a few inches give or take.
Its time to bring out the plants. I will carefully remove the plants and place them in the holes that are 3/4 of the way full of dirt. Then once in the hole I add more dirt to top them off. Removing the plants from the pots require patience, I drove my hands down the sides inside the pots and scooped under the root system to pull it out in one big chunk. Seemed to work well.. never done this for cannabis so hopefully I did it right.
With all four plants in the ground its time to give them a good watering. They were a bit on the dry side when I brought them out knowing I would be planting its best to keep the soil more dry working with it.
Lol they look so small right now, I wonder how big they will be by October.. Maybe over the fence? Thats more than 8 feet, that would be amazing. Though since I topped them they may just grow more bushy and end up being giant shrubs.
Upon planting I kept an eye on them for the next few hours, no signs of wilting. They seem to have taken the transplant very well. They should stay well protected in the fenced in enclosure. But curious what tries to feed on them on the next few months. I will be ready to deal with it I am sure.
Now we let them grow for many months and naturally they will flower when the time of day changes again in the fall.
Soon it will be time to give them their first fertilizer feeding outdoors. But I think the soil has good nutrients in it, along with the mix from the pots they should do well.
As the morning sun comes up the plants seem to accept it and are happy. I checked on them the next day and so far they are doing well. The soil has settled in the holes making a good water retention area. Glad I planted them to to the top of the ground as I figured a few feet of garden soil would sink a bit.

I don't know much about planting, not to talk about how to plant cannabis, but these transplants look good, and I don't know it takes much process to plant cannabis outdoors. This is good, and I've learned something today.

I really liked the depth you made in the soil and that you filled it with fertile soil for cultivation. I think everything turned out very well. However, I think you should monitor it daily to see its evolution.
