Life Lessons from "BREAKING BAD": A Deep Dive into the Transformation of Walter White

in Hive Learners17 days ago

Through the years I've watched 100th of movies and it's been awesome, while some have valuable lessons to learn and if keenly understood could aid our journey in life, others are just pure entertainment with little or no lessons, but today I'll love to write about one of my favourite movies of all time and the reason why I rate this movie this much is because of the invaluable lessons I've learnt from it and how that's has been one of my life guide going forward.

The movie I'm talking about is no other but the popular American TV series titled BREAKING BAD, which was aired between the years 2008 -2013, and it has five seasons, numerous episodes and lessons to learn, I first watched this movie when I was an undergraduate in the university and the main thing that attracted me to it was the title breaking bad, you see, I'm a lover of action movies and seeing such a title made me have this belief that I'm for an action pack tv series.

In truth, it was, although not in the way that I expected or the regular kind of action movies out there, what this movie did is exactly what the title means, because it showcased the life of a man who transits from being an innocent and law-abiding citizen to building a crime empire, and the fact that all of this happens gradually, simply shows how futile happenings can influence our actions and decisions and could literally changes the direction of our lives if we let such overwhelmed us.

Before I delve into the lesson learned from the movie, I'd first love to briefly summarise the movie and thereafter, I'd delve into the lessons learnt.

So this is a movie based on the life of a man known simply as Walter white, he happens to be a high school chemistry teacher, but after being diagnosed with terminal cancer that would claim his life in a few months, his world went upside down, because he was burden with the thought of how he'd secure a financial future for his family, and along the line, he ran into one of his old students who's into the production of blue meth, one thing leads to another, that once Walter figure out how much us former students jesse was earning from his illegal stuff, he also decided he wants to be a part of it, and being a chemistry teacher, he knows everything about preparing this high-quality drug that's massively in demand and that's how they became a team.

That small team that began in his old Yard grew big into a drug empire that's notorious in the community, becoming a drug lord, and drug trafficker, and gradually all of these overwhelmed him till he was consumed with greed, lust for power, and overall, it believes the biggest message it carries is the consequences that follow one's choice.

Now to the lessons learnt;

Consequences of choices: As I said earlier, this is the biggest message from this series and it simply shows that all our actions in life have consequences be they positive or negative action, they all come with consequences and that's exactly what happened to Walter in the end.

Moral Obscurity: One of the core lessons I learnt from this movie is that good and bad reside in everyone and as we go on in life, we'll arrive at a junction where we're expected to make a decision that could make or mar our lives or that of others in our bid to achieve our goal of survive.

Loyalty and betrayal: Although Walter's family wasn't the best, delving into his newfound lifestyle dents it all and also helps me learn that there are consequences of broken trust and it has a huge impact on the lives of those involved, as it ruins all that has been built through the years.

Pursuit of Power: The series teaches a lesson of how one can derail from a morally upright individual into a ruthless menace in society and that's how Walter went from being a teacher to a drug lord, a murderer and several other offences to mention but a few, the quest for power can be somewhat and the path is consuming if one isn't mindful.

Forgiveness and Redemption: The last part of the story and one of the vital learns learnt from this series is that nothing is really over and you can still have a turnaround in life, and that was made evident in the life of Jesse, Mr Walter partner who gave up and was given the privilege to right his wrong, and I believe its a strong message to everyone indulging in one thing or another that's not ideal, so they'll learn and realised it's never to late to change.

That's about all of the lessons I learnt from Breaking Bad, that's so compelling and navigates its storyline around human nature, consequences of our choices, morality and the like, and I'm sure this is a movie to watch and one that'll impact lives in the best way possible in our world today, although I'm no longer watching the series presently, it's still on my to watch movie on Netflix and I'd do well to watch it once again shortly.

Thanks for your time, have a blessed and productive day ahead.

I love this show, too. It's interesting to see when people stop rooting for Walt. Like at first, even though he's doing terrible things, people generally are on his side because he wants money for his family so they aren't destitute and in debt when he dies and you can kind of understand. But then as he gets worse and worse ...some people take a long time to realize he's not the hero of the story. Like a lot of people hated Skyler, but really she was angry and scared. Her once gentle husband has become a maniac. Jesse was my favorite though. Even though he was involved in crime, he wasn't a bad person. He had a lot more feelings about right and wrong than Walt did. Eventually he becomes more mature than Walt.
Similarly, a lot of people hated Hank because his personality was such a jerk, but in the end he was doing the right thing and he was the one betrayed. The show did such a good job of messing with you and like, testing the audience to see if they focused more on someone's personality or the good/bad they were doing.
Anyway, there was this meme that made me laugh - that the whole story wouldn't have happened if the US had universal healthcare, because then Walt's family wouldn't have had to worry about paying for treatment:

Wow that's some review you've got here, in truth I can relate with everything and how intriguing the movie is, with loads of mind twister and lessons to learn.

Just like you, in thrilled by Jesse conscience and personality with more conscience than Walter, despite being the first person in the game.

I guess being at the edge of life of having something at stake usually brood out some nature in our that's unseen before(could be good or bad like that of Walter)

As regarding the comic joke you mentioned, its actually true, though funny, but all of these wouldn't have played out had US truely had the universal healthcare.

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback and review of the series.

I added this movie to my movie Watch list some time ago but after I discovered that it had 5 Seasons I became less interested. I saw a lot of people hype this movie but I have never been able to bring myself to watch it. From the lessons you highlighted it seems I might take a second look at the movie.

The thing about humans is that When we discover that we a limited time on earth, we can either do one of this two things, it is either we choose to be grateful for time spent and appreciate the time we have left or we become desperate about about living longer. Since Walter has something at stake it added more fuel to the fire.

Its a movie that'll get you glue to your screen once you start watching few episodes for the thought of what would play out next.

In truth, you're right about human nature of delving into things that'll hidden in us prior to we having something (life) at stake.
