Hello fellow Lions,
I am thrilled to share my sixth entry for the Leofinance X Zealy Art quest which focuses on the theme of an Old, Wise, Strong and Proud Lion. Initially, I thought it would be a straightforward task to portray a powerful OG lion. However, as I sought inspiration from various lion pictures online, I was overwhelmed by a lot of ideas flooding my mind, making it difficult to settle on an initial blueprint. Eventually, I decided to draw a lion roaring outside his cave on a rock, symbolizing his raw strength and proudly declaring his status as the king of the jungle. To convey his age, I decided just to give his manes a whitish look which would also add a touch of wisdom to the character.
Before I jump into the steps and creation of my latest artwork, let me take a moment to reflect on my journey as an artist throughout this quest. While I have told you before that I am not a professional artist or painter and that I lost interest in drawing after my school days. However, stumbling upon the Leofinance X Zealy Art quest reignited the joy of exploring this long-forgotten world. Initially, for my first two entries, I utilized the free web-based image app called Canva, which I frequently use for creating my post thumbnails. To make those first 2 I used the collage technique and merged various PNG and GIF elements that I found online to create unique images that aligned with the quest themes. Surprisingly, my work passed the initial stages, and I even received appreciation from fellow readers in Threads and Discord.
As the quest progressed and I advanced to the intermediate level, I realized that these casual crafts would no longer be enough to impress the discerning boss lions. Determined to elevate my artistic skills, I decided to pick up my pencils again and attempt something more remarkable than my previous works. For the third art quest which centered around the theme "Leader of the pack," I challenged myself to create a pencil sketch after a long time. To my surprise, my unskilled fingers managed to produce a decent drawing depicting a full-grown apex lion leading his family of five. Although it took longer than I expected to make the drawing, the effort paid off when my art passed the evaluation and it certainly boosted my confidence for future art quests.
Next, I participated in the fourth quest which was focused on being an LPUD Participant. In that entry, I created an art piece depicting a leader lion seated on a magnificent throne and accompanied by a golden Leo stick which symbolizes his authority and influence within the Leofinance community. The image aimed to convey the power and prestige that comes with a significant Leo token power-up and gladly it also passed the test.
Furthermore, for my fifth quest, which called for an image of a Lion engaging in stereotypical hustling activities and attire, I embarked on a brainstorming journey and ultimately, I chose to depict a young lion as a rapper, captivating the audience on stage with a standing microphone. To my delight, this piece of decent art caught significant praise, including a personal acknowledgment from Anomadsoul, one of the Leofinance founders, in our Discord community. The appreciation received from such an esteemed figure further fueled my motivation to continue honing my skills.
Now, with my sixth entry, I present an unmatched and unique drawing of an old, wise and strong OG lion. This majestic creature roars fiercely from the depths of his cave, announcing his presence and claiming his position as the true king of the wild jungle.
I am eager to share this artwork with you all, hoping it will once again captivate the quest organizers and the Leofinance community. It has been an incredible journey rediscovering my passion for art, and I look forward to future quests, challenges and opportunities for growth. Now, without further ado, let me share the steps and the final result with you all and I hope you will love it.
Step 1
As usual, I begin creating the sketch on an A4 sized paper and for my first step, I draw margins on all 4 sides. Then, I first draw a vertical and 2 horizontal lines which will help me shade the lion in the picture.
Step 2
The 3rd step was a bit hard to start drawing the lion's face because I was trying to draw a side face of the lion, but after spending some time on it, I finally liked this look which was resembling the face well. As it will be an old lion, I increased the length of the lion's manes and also kept him with an open mouth to show he is roaring loud.
Step 3
For the next part, I started drawing the body but as I finished with the outline, I thought his body is looking a bit smaller than his face. However, as it was soothing my eyes I decided to keep it this way.
Step 4
After I finished sketching the head and body of the Lion, now it was time to create a background for him that suits the overall vibe. I decided to place him on a rock to give it a larger-than-life look.
Step 5
Then, I also added a mountain far behind his cave as a background for this picture and as for the next step. I started filling the sketch with shading to give it a proper look.
Step 6
I started with the head and manes of the lion and to show his old age, I kept a portion of his mane whitish while giving a darker look to the remaining part. After shading his head part, I then started shading it's rest of the body parts.
Step 7
After I got finished with the Lion, I started filling the background mountain with a lighter shade and added some grass around the stone.
Step 8
For my last step, I shaded the stone and also did some minor improvements that I thought will make the sketch look better and voila! The old, strong and wise OG lion is ready to roar you all out from the jungle as it is his territory to be ruled!
