The Cat and The Hound 06

The Real Superheroines of Hive Valley

So I'm proud of myself, I recently figured out a way to draw Miss Fury's costume way easier. Short of just having AI do it for me I mean.

Take a look at the pose above and look at the red line details on Miss Fury's cat suit. Now imagine being an illustrator and drawing those black lines. First of all, they are parallel black lines only about 3 pixels apart, so if your hand shakes, you start over. Because little discrepancies show up really big when the two lines are that close together. But here's how I did it for this image.

I just ignored all of those lines until the end after all the coloring and shading. Then just created a new layer on top of everything else. In the layer options, I select the "Outline" option and create a black outline (I think only 2 pixels in width for this drawing) for everything on the layer. Then all I have to do is use a red pen and draw the pattern.

Here's a quick 3-minute sketch:

Perfect parallel lines every time! It even makes it easier to color that boob window later because I can paint it sloppily. Anything under the black, red, black layer isn't visible. So it's painting within the lines, but it's actually a really fat line.

If you look at past chapters starring Miss Fury, she is rarely wearing her costume. Mostly because it was a pain to draw. Also, I don't think anyone minded her wearing the micro bikinis or the evening wear. But now that I can do this, I can save so much time and effort! Well, maybe not as much time and effort as I spent bragging about and explaining this.

OK, that's my victory for this week. I am uploading this post from the Sonoma Valley Public Library. I am living on the street tonight for one more night then starting a new cat sit in San Rafael. See you all there!

I guess comic artists have to make decisions about what is viable to draw over and over. The digital tools may offer some shortcuts, but it's the ideas that matter. I do wonder what 'AI' will offer to the arts. We need it to do the boring stuff, not reduce the need for creativity.

!LOLZ

Yeah, I've been using AI to generate backgrounds for miscellaneous paintings, mostly for Splinterlands contest art.

I have an imagination
