Exploring the world of Lions and Safari Vehicles

in STEMGeeks16 days ago (edited)

I watch wildlife documentaries, then I see these ferocious lions doing nothing but ignoring Safari Vehicles. And I am like woah lion, this piece of automobile, an intruder just trespassed on your territory and the reaction of the kings and queen of the jungle is just, well, no particular reaction.

The question is why ?

You see, it common knowledge that lions are like the big bosses of the wild. They're strong, they're fierce, and they're not to be messed with. Now one thing more fascinating or maybe questionable is, when people hop into safari vehicles, those lions don't see them as dinner. Nope, they're more like, "Eh, whatever."

The question again is why ? What makes the lion so uninterested when it comes to Safari vehicles?

I am no woldlife expert, but of course I decided to do some findings and of course I found something 👇

So here's the deal, Safari vehicles are these big, noisy things that chug along through the lion's turf or through the wild life savannah. They're like giant rolling metal boxes that humans sit in while they ooh and aah at the animals, stuff like that. And because these vehicles make such a racket and move so slow, lions don't see them as food. It's like trying to sneak up on someone while blaring a loud speaker– not gonna happen.

Now, you might be thinking, "But what if a lion gets curious and wants to check out the humans inside the vehicle?" Good question! That's where the design of the safari vehicle comes in handy. See, they're built high off the ground and all enclosed, with windows you can roll up tight. It's like being in your own little fortress, safe from any lion shenanigans.

But here's where it gets really funny. A lady who works at a fancy place called MalaMala, which is like the VIP section of the animal kingdom next to Kruger Park in South Africa shared a hilarious story about how they introduce lions to safari vehicles.

She said when a brand-new pride of lions moves into the neighborhood, right? The rangers at MalaMala always want to make sure these lions know that safari vehicles are no big deal, so what they do is they take one of the vehicles for a little joyride around the lion's hangout spot. Then, they park it nearby and just let it chill there for a few hours. And what do the lions do? They waltz right up, give it a good sniff, and then wander off like it's no big deal. It's like they're saying, "Yep, just another weird metal thing in the neighborhood."

Unrelated, but there's this story about a lady tourist who had to pee really bad. Like, emergency level bad. And of course, there are lions lurking about, so she can't exactly pop a squat behind a bush. So, the ranger finds this nice, quiet spot where there are no animals around and tells the lady to do her business behind the vehicle.

Well, a minute later, there's this blood-curdling scream coming from the back of the vehicle. Everyone freaks out, thinking a lion got her or something. But nope, turns out she burned her butt on the hot exhaust pipe! Can you imagine? Here she is, trying to avoid the lions, and she ends up getting bitten by the vehicle instead.
