A Visit to Heage Windmill, Derbyshire (UK)

in Pinmapple15 days ago (edited)

We visited Heage Windmill today for the first time. The only way to look around it is by having a guided tour for only £5. Bargain! Friends of Heage Windmill is a voluntary organisation. Volunteers operate the mill, show people around, maintain, and raise funds for the mill. It was just a pity we didn't have nice blue skies to complement the mill, but you can't predict the weather at the moment.

I find guided tours a bit boring, but our guide was really interesting and didn't just churn out information.

The windmill does produce flour so afterwards you can buy it in their onsite shop.

This is an old rebate plane for cutting grooves in wood.

Fred the Flour Grader was created in 1964 by an advertising agency. I can remember the tv adverts advertising Homepride Flour at that time. Fred's catchphrase was "because graded grains make finer flour." The adverts ran for many years. Fred is now a collector's item and is very synonymous with flour.

Fantastic views over the countryside too including the old mill stone.

On the day, there was an added bonus of a classic car, bike, and truck ralley. It was definitely a cheap day out.

Nice setting with old classic cars and wind mill. Love to have a pound of flour from the mill too! Got to make some pancakes soon.

Pancakes with maple syrup .... yummy!

Love your post. So many interesting details and photos. The rock grinder that you shared, my grandmother had the same. I tried my hands on it... so cool to see them again!

The history behind Fred the Flour Grader is fascinating. What a fun day with the classic car rally too 😍

Fred was a lovable character. 🙂
