Badbury Rings, the Iron Age Hillfort in Dorset, UK

in Pinmapple25 days ago

As it was another sunny day, we called in at Badbury Rings, the Iron Age Hillfort in Dorset. From the car park, there is a slight incline with a series of banks and ditches on either side of the footpath. The sun shone down on us as we made our way up towards the ancient site, with the surrounding countryside stretching out before us.

The site dates from around 800 BC and was used until the Roman occupation of 43 AD. Source The National Trust, now maintains the site which apart from people walking or picnicking here it is also used for grazing land and encouraging wild herbs and flowers.

There is a wood at the very top but we decided to turn left to start our circular walk. Dogs had to be kept on a lead as it is lambing season but not one sheep or lamb in sight so everyone's dogs could have a good run around.

We didn't see a lot of wildlife apart from a kestrel hovering above after a meal, no doubt.

As we reached the top of the hill, we could see the lovely landscape of Dorset under the bright blue sky. Overall, it was a nice easy walk.

Full of history.

It is indeed. 🙂

Have a nice day. 😊

Beautiful landscapes! The path with steps built into the hills looks mysterious in such deserted places.

Yes, I really liked those steps as well. 🙂
