Argentina - On the way up to the Laguna de Los Témpanos in Ushuaia: still frozen in almost summertime. / Camino arriba hasta la Laguna de Los Témpanos en Ushuaia: todavía congelada en casi verano. 😃❤️

I think if I had known that Ushuaia had so many amazing treks to do, I would have traveled there much earlier. But everything happens in its own time, so I was glad I got there just when my legs are well prepared for extensive hiking. My stay in the southernmost city in the world was one of the most tiring of my last time, but one of the most beautiful of all because every day I wanted to go out and see a new landscape. This almost unstoppable rhythm allowed me to do a lot of trekking, including one of the most difficult ones, the trail to the Laguna de Los Témpanos, with a more than spectacular landscape 😃.

Creo que si hubiese sabido que en Ushuaia habían tantos trekkings increíbles para hacer, hubiese viajado para allá mucho antes. Pero cada cosa sucede a su debido tiempo, así que me alegré por haber llegado allá justo cuando mis piernas están bien preparadas para extensas caminatas. Mi estancia en la ciudad más austral del mundo fue de las más cansadoras de mi último tiempo, pero de las más hermosas de todas porque cada día quería salir a conocer un nuevo paisaje. Este ritmo casi imparable me permitió hacer una gran cantidad de trekkings, incluyendo uno de los más dificiles como lo es la senda a la Laguna de Los Témpanos, con un paisaje más que espectacular 😃.

After a few hikes without being able to coincide with my friends from the hostel, the day came when the planets aligned for us and together we were able to undertake a hike of medium difficulty. According to what we had researched, this hike would take us a few hours, so we took an Uber to the trailhead as soon as I finished my shift at the hostel at 12 PM. This time might sound a bit late to start a long trek, but the good thing about Ushuaia in summer is that there is daylight until 11 PM so that was not a problem for us 😃.

Después de algunas caminatas sin poder coincidir con mis amigos del hostel, llegó el día en el que los planetas se alinearon para nosotros y juntos pudimos emprender una marcada como de dificultad media. Según lo que habíamos investigado, este paseo nos tomaría unas cuantas horas, por lo que nos tomamos un Uber hasta el inicio del sendero ni bien yo terminé mi turno de trabajo en el hostel a las 12 PM. Esta hora quizás suene como un poco tarde para iniciar un trekking largo, pero lo bueno que tiene Ushuaia en verano es que hay luz del día hasta las 11 PM así que eso no representaba un problema para nosotros 😃.

To get to the start of this trail we headed towards the area of Ushuaia called Valle de Andorra in a trip that cost us $5 and only took about 15 minutes to get there. From this trail you can go to three places: Vinciguerra Glacier passing by Laguna de los Témpanos, with a detour to Laguna Encantada, two 10 km round trip hikes that can be done in a day, plus Laguna del Caminante, for which it is already necessary to camp on the way because it is more than 14 km just one way. After having failed in our walk to the Albino Glacier a few days before, this time we had set our goal a little lower and we would only try to reach the lagoon so as not to feel frustrated at the end 😅.

Para llegar al inicio de este sendero nos dirigimos hacia la zona de Ushuaia llamada Valle de Andorra en un viaje que nos costó $5 y solo tardó unos 15 minutos en llegar. Desde este sendero se pueden ir a tres lugares: Glaciar Vinciguerra pasando por la Laguna de los Témpanos, con un desvío hasta la Laguna Encantada, dos caminatas de 10 km ida y vuelta que se pueden hacer en el día, además de la Laguna del Caminante, para la cual ya es necesario acampar en el camino porque son más de 14 km solo de ida. Después de haber fallado en nuestro paseo al Glaciar del Albino algunos días atrás, esta vez nos habíamos puesto una meta un poco más baja y solo trataríamos de llegar hasta la laguna para no sentirnos frustrados al final 😅.

The first part of the trail was really friendly, bordering an area of rivers and streams with some well-built bridges and others not so well built. We also saw a peaty area, something very common in Ushuaia's landscapes. Of course, there was also the part where the trail leads you through a lenga forest, and that is where you start to notice the real difference in altitude. I didn't find this trail difficult and it was well signposted, but you have to take into account that it is very muddy and snowy so it is almost impossible to get out of there clean 😅.

La primera parte del sendero fue realmente amigable, costeando una zona de ríos y arroyos con algunos puentes bien construídos y otros no tanto. También vimos zona de turba, algo muy común en los paisajes de Ushuaia. Por supuesto que no faltó la parte en la que el camino te guía por dentro de un bosque de lengas, y es donde se comienza a notar el verdadero desnivel. Este camino no me pareció difícil y además estaba bien señalizado, pero hay que tener en cuenta que tiene mucho barro y nieve así que es casi imposible que salgas limpio de ahí 😅.

Once the forest part was over, we again came across the river that we assumed was descending from the lagoon we were heading to. The first view of this landscape was impressive, as it was all meadow with the great snow-capped mountains in the background. The path was still very muddy and we had to be very careful when stepping on it, but once we crossed that part the path was stony and heading towards the final slope. This was the part where my small group split up and everyone continued at their own pace. As I prefer to go slow but get there in one piece, I was the one who took the longest to finish the climb, and because I didn't cross the river in time, I couldn't pass, so I had to go back a few meters to find the right path 😅.

Una vez finalizada la parte de bosque, nuevamente nos encontramos con el río que supusimos que descendía de la laguna a la que nos dirigíamos. La primera vista de este paisaje fue imponente, ya que era todo un prado con las grandes montañas nevadas de fondo. El camino seguía muy embarrado y había que tener mucho cuidado al pisar, pero una vez atravesada esa parte el sendero estaba pedregoso y con dirección al desnivel final. Esta parte fue en la que mi pequeño grupo se separó y cada uno continuó a su ritmo. Como yo prefiero ir lento pero llegar entera, fui la que más tardó en terminar de subir, además de que por no cruzar el rio a tiempo más arriba no pude pasar, así que me tocó retroceder algunos metros para encontrar la senda correcta 😅.

Once at the top, I met up with my companions who had already settled in, picnic and all. To our surprise, we found a lagoon more than 90% frozen, where we could see a thick layer of ice over it. The good thing about not having seen photos of this place before is that I didn't even know what I was going to find, so the surprise factor was intact. It was great that this lagoon was still frozen despite being very close to the hottest time of our year, but at the same time wonderful because it was the second frozen lagoon I had seen on this trip ❤️.

Una vez arriba, me reencontré con mis compañeros que ya se habían instalado con picnic y todo. Para nuestra sorpresa, nos encontramos con una laguna congelada en más del 90%, en la que se podía ver una gruesa capa de hielo sobre ella. Lo bueno de no haber visto fotos de este lugar antes es que ni siquiera sabía con qué me iba a encontrar, así que el factor sorpresa estuvo intacto. Fue genial que esta laguna siguiera congelada a pesar de estar muy cerca de la época más calurosa de nuestro año, pero a la vez maravilloso porque era la segunda laguna congelada que veía en este paseo ❤️.

In these last three years making regular trips around Argentina I had the opportunity to visit the most beautiful places in my country and I am sure it is something I could not get tired of. During this tour I met many people from other countries who cross the whole ocean to come and see our landscapes and that fills me with pride. This place was really amazing and I was mesmerized by its beauty for quite a while. The adrenaline of having arrived there after walking for more than three hours made me feel hot and I couldn't not take a picture inside the lagoon, although I could literally only stay a few seconds in the icy water until my feet started to hurt a lot 😂.

En estos tres últimos años haciendo viajes regulares por Argentina tuve la oportunidad de visitar los lugares más hermosos de mi país y estoy segura de que es algo de lo que no podría cansarme. Durante este paseo me encontré con muchas personas de otros países que cruzan todo el océano para venir a ver nuestros paisajes y eso me llena de orgullo. Este lugar era realmente increíble y me quedé un buen rato hipnotizada con su belleza. La adrenalina de haber llegado hasta allá después de caminar por más de tres horas me hizo dar calor y no podía no sacarme una foto dentro de la laguna, aunque literalmente solo pude estar unos segundos en el agua helada hasta que mis pies empezaron a doler bastante 😂.

This tour in Ushuaia was one of the coolest I did while in Ushuaia. I loved this place as much as when I went to Laguna de Los Tres in El Chaltén, Santa Cruz, so far rated by myself as the most beautiful place I've been to. Nobody is wrong when they say that Argentine Patagonia is one of the most beautiful places there is, and if you have the opportunity to visit it, do not hesitate for a minute. And after all the euphoria for having achieved our goal, my companions and I realized that this lagoon did not really have any tempane: deceived by the name, but at least not disappointed by the great scenery 😃.

Este paseo en Ushuaia fue uno de los más geniales que hice mientras estuve en Ushuaia. Este lugar me encantó tanto como cuando fui a la Laguna de Los Tres en El Chaltén, Santa Cruz, hasta ahora calificado por mí misma como el lugar más hermoso en el que estuve. Nadie se equivoca cuando afirman que la patagonia argentina es de lo más precioso que hay, y que si tenés la oportunidad de visitarla, no lo dudes ni un minuto. Y después de toda la euforia por haber logrado nuestro objetivo, mis compañeros y yo caíamos en la cuenta de que esta laguna no tenía ningún tempano en realidad: engañados por el nombre, pero al menos no defraudados por el gran paisaje 😃.
