Although in Ushuaia the sun rose early and it got dark very late giving me enough free time to go for a walk anywhere, there were some hikes that necessarily had to start in the morning hours. My work shift at the hostel ended after noon, so my days off were the days I chose to go on these much longer walks. One of them was to visit the Tierra del Fuego National Park, which is as extensive as it is beautiful and with a lot of places to visit. In a morning of intense hiking, I set out to get to Ensenada Bay and the post office, something I could not miss 😃.
A pesar de que en Ushuaia amanecía muy temprano y oscurecía muy tarde dandome suficiente tiempo libre como para ir a pasear a cualquier lado, habían algunas caminatas que necesariamente tenían que empezar en horas de la mañana. Mi turno de trabajo en el hostel terminaba después del mediodía, por lo que mis días libres eran los elegidos para hacer estos paseos mucho más largos. Uno de ellos fue visitar el Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, que es tan extenso como hermoso y con un montón de lugares para recorrer. En una mañana de intensa caminata, me propuse llegar hasta la Bahía Ensenada y la oficina de correo, algo que no podía dejar de conocer 😃.
In Ushuaia there is not much public transportation to take you to the most touristic places as I have seen in other cities in Argentina, so having a vehicle or a lot of willingness to walk is necessary. There is also the option of cheap rides with Uber, which makes things quite easy. But since at this point I was quite used to walking, I thought it was a good idea to take the colectivo to the outskirts of the city and walk only 6 km to the entrance of the park. Unbelievable that 6 km seems little to me but that's how it is 😂.
En Ushuaia no hay mucho transporte público que te lleve a los lugares más turísticos como he visto en otras ciudades de Argentina, por lo que tener un vehículo o muchas ganas de caminar es necesario. También está la opción de viajes baratos con Uber, lo que facilita bastante las cosas. Pero como en este punto ya me acostumbré bastante a caminar, me pareció buena idea acercarme con el colectivo hasta las afueras de la ciudad y caminar solo 6 km hasta la entrada del parque. Increíble que 6 km me parezca poco pero así es 😂.
The good thing about walking this distance is that you can get some very nice postcards on it. I wasn't even inside the park and the scenery already looked beautiful, with rivers, mountains, green fields and some snow on the peaks. Several cars were passing by on the way to the park, and my new friend Blanca's recommendation was to hitchhike to the entrance, but I was still too shy in that mode and didn't dare 😅.
Lo bueno de hacer estre trayecto caminando es que se pueden obtener unas muy buenas postales en él. Ni siquiera estaba dentro del parque y el paisaje ya se veía hermoso, con ríos, montañas, campos verdes y algo de nieve en las cumbres. Pasaban varios autos por ahí camino al parque, y la recomendación de mi nueva amiga Blanca era que hiciera dedo hasta la entrada, pero todavía estaba muy tímida en esa modalidad y no me animé 😅.
A little before the official entrance to the park is the End of the World Train station. There you can take the classic tourist ride, although there is also the option of walking along the tracks on the side as they are only about 8 km from end to end. I had already done this ride on the train, so my legs were saved from walking that too 😅.
Un poco antes de la entrada oficial del parque se encuentra la estación del Tren del Fin del Mundo. Ahí se puede realizar el clásico paseo turístico, aunque también está la opción de recorrer las vías caminando por el costado ya que son solo unos 8 km de punta a punta. Este paseo ya lo había hecho en el tren, así que mis piernas se ahorraron de caminar eso también 😅.
Once inside the park, the trail to Ensenada Bay is not very long. Just a little more than half an hour in the forest and you are there. What I liked most about many of the trails in Ushuaia was how well marked they were, so much so that it was almost impossible to get lost. Also, since it was almost summer, there was no snow, which made the visit much easier ❣️.
Una vez dentro del parque, el sendero hasta la Bahía Ensenada no es muy largo. Solo un poco más de media hora en el bosque y ya estás ahí. Lo que me gustó más de muchos de los senderos de Ushuaia era lo bien señalizados que estaban, tanto que era casi imposible perderse. Además, como estábamos casi en verano ya no había nada de nieve, lo que facilitaba mucho la visita ❣️.
The entrance to Tierra del Fuego National Park is not free: for us residents of Argentina, the cost was $2.5 in December 2023, and now the updated rate is $10. It doesn't seem to me a very expensive price considering how beautiful the place is and all there is to do in it, besides being a unique "you are there and you have to do it" tour. However, for tourists the price is a bit higher: the general rate is $30. I don't know if this seems expensive or cheap, but at least for the scenery, I think it's worth it 😅.
La entrada al Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego no es gratis: para nosotros los residentes de Argentina, el costo era de $2.5 en diciembre 2023, y ahora la tarifa actualizada es de $10. No me parece un precio muy caro considerando lo hermoso que es el lugar y todo lo que hay para hacer en él, además de ser un paseo único ya que "estás ahí y hay que hacerlo". Sin embargo, para los turistas el precio es un poco más elevado: la tarifa general cuesta $30. No sé si esto les parece caro o barato, pero al menos por los paisajes, creo que lo vale 😅.
Ensenada Bay is a very nice beach with a great view of the mountains. Besides serving as a place to spend the day, its main attraction is the Post Office at the End of the World. Unfortunately, by the time I went there it was closed and I was left wanting to see it from the inside. What people usually do when they are traveling here is to mail themselves a letter so that it reaches their original addresses. In this letter they write nice things to have a good memory of their visit to this incredible place, and it must be very touching to receive it once they get home ❣️.
La Bahía Ensenada es una playa muy linda con una gran vista a las montañas. Además de servir como espacio para pasar el día, su atractivo principal es el Correo del Fin del Mundo. Lamentablemente, para cuando yo fui estaba cerrado y me quedé con ganas de verlo por dentro. Lo que la gente suele hacer cuando está de viaje por acá es auto-enviarse una carta para que les llegue a sus domicilios originales. En esta carta se escriben cosas lindas para tener un buen recuerdo del paseo por este lugar increíble, y debe ser muy emotivo recibirla una vez en casa ❣️.
From where the bus dropped me off to the Bay I walked a total of about 8 km, but I didn't feel tired at all. I think that when you are motivated to see a beautiful place, you go as if nothing happened. And I was glad I chose my day off to go there, because this place was wonderful. The whole trip to Ushuaia made me very excited because it was something I wanted to do and everything fell into place to make it possible. I couldn't have been more grateful ❣️.
Desde donde me dejó el colectivo hasta llegar a la Bahía caminé en total unos 8 km, pero no me sentí para nada cansada. Pienso que cuando uno está motivado a conocer un lugar hermoso va como si nada. Y me alegré de haber elegido mi día libre para ir ahí, porque este lugar era maravilloso. Todo el viaje a Ushuaia me emocionó mucho porque era algo que quería hacer y todo se acomodó para que sea posible. No podría haber estado más agradecida ❣️.
As I had left quite early for a walk, it was barely noon and I still had a lot more to see and do. Surely if you go in a private vehicle you can walk much more inside the park, but for me, who enjoys walking, it was being quite an experience. I think that if you have enough time (and supplies), you can spend the whole day in there. I enjoyed visiting Ensenada Bay and the Post Office: like every little corner I visited in Ushuaia, I was not disappointed ❤️.
Como había salido bastante temprano a caminar, apenas era el mediodía y todavía tenía mucho más por ver y hacer. Seguramente si uno va en vehículo particular puede recorrer mucho más dentro del parque, pero para mí que disfruto caminar, estaba siendo toda una experiencia. Pienso que si vas con tiempo suficiente (y provisiones), podés pasar todo el día ahí dentro. Me gustó visitar la Bahía Ensenada y la oficina del correo: como cada rinconcito que visité en Ushuaia, no me defraudó ❤️.

For how well trained your legs are, an eight kilometer walk was undoubtedly nothing, besides, the beauty of the reserve is worth any sacrifice one has to make to get there. The post office is a beautiful place to visit
