Just the Right Dose of Nature

Argyle waterfalls are one of the quintessential tourist locations on the little island of Tobago. Ironically, though, for the numerous amount of times we've visited Tobago, we have never been to this location until now! You will be experiencing this natural beauty for the first time along with me. The Path to the falls is a well kept nature trail through lush forest and bamboo, then along the river to the cascading waters upstream. It was what felt like only 20 minutes, not that much of an extraneous hike, easy for the newbies and short enough to enjoy everything without being tired.

About an hour away from the resort by car, we arrived at the unassuming turnoff where the entrance to the falls were. We took the left at the sign and the way the area looked, you would never think there was a lush nature trail hidden away somewhere amongst a suburb with a playing field and so on.
We kept following the signs directing us along the way. Vaguely, I remember visiting here a while ago when I was much younger. I actually did a blog on the nature park near here before during the Steemit days. We were actually supposed to visit the waterfall back then but because of the weather, we opted out of it... Not Today!
We arrived at this seemingly abandoned single building in the middle of nowhere. There was no one around. It was eerily quiet. Was the attraction closed? Could you even close something like a nature trail? It seemed that all the entrances to the trail was blocked off and the only way in was through the main building. In Trinidad, all the hikes and waterfalls and beaches cannot really be CLOSED. We wondered on further to the entrance. Upon closer inspection, there was one person at a counter hidden on the inside who charged us a fee before we could proceed. She said the place became dead like this because of COVID. Made sense.
The beginning of the trail was extremely well kept as well as all throughout. It was a proper jungle with various flora and fauna all throughout. It is always nice to see species that one had never seen before and take in that fresh crisp virgin nature air.
There was much to see. We found this ancient looking well that seemed like it was made way back in the colonial days by only God knows who. The aesthetic due to the rocks used as well as the resident mossed made this look so awesome!
At this stairway, we could hear the roaring of a stream which meant we were somewhat close now. The stairway, even though clearly more modern than the well, seemed also to be ancient with its dilapidation and coverage of moss.
At the top of the stairway we could see the stream at the end of a steep and slippery descent. Almost comically, at the bottom the descending stairway, was a large sign upon a most fascinating rock that warned of the lack of traction on the slope. Funnily, I imagined someone who was so engrossed on climbing down that they did not see the sign, slipped anyway, and had it ironically displayed in their face when they got down!
This was the fist view of the stream that was supposedly supposed to have come from the famous Argyle Waterfalls. The falls were not yet in view as it seemed that there was a corner that obstructed it. Just a little more again!
As soon as we turned the corner, there it was in all of its glory! Multiple cascades that seemed to be so high up and magnificent. The sounds it produced from so far away was so calming already I felt like racing towards it!
It was quite fun jumping from rock to rock as we got to the main pool of the waterfall. In Trinidad, the tallest waterfall dwarfs this one by comparison but it does not seem as magical as this one. It just has one small stream. The sheer size and volume of water that was coming down in so many cascades made this one seem so enchanted like something out of Lord of the Rings. It was many times more beautiful!
It was an awesome experience all in all. That was the most beautiful waterfall I had ever seen! Even though the pools were a little brown due to the rainfall, it was still breathtaking. Finally after all those years of coming to Tobago, we can say that we finally visited the Argyle Waterfalls! Thanks for coming along, hope you enjoyed!
