The Cyan Beauty

DJI_0201.jpg

Our next stop on the Dutch Island of Curaçao is Cas Abao. I just love saying that, Cas Abao, Curaçao! I digress. I like to call this beach the Cyan Beauty as its breathtaking cyan hue that runs all along the coastline rendered me feeling like I had set foot upon a glowing beautiful gem of sorts. This was one of the more populated beaches that we encountered on the island as there were more man made things to do such as bars, restaurants, a resort, events and thatched straw umbrellas everywhere.

We typed in Cas Abao in the GPS and it took us off the main road, past this sign that you can see above. The nicely paved main road turned into a gravelly rough and dusty road that were surrounded on both sides by Curaçaoan bush which is basically just cacti and other prickly succulent plants.

The drive seemed like it went on for half an hour as we had to take our time through the rough sinks and dodge holes and avoid muddy patches. It was a rental car of course and so I did want to be extra careful with it! At this time, the AC in the car struggled to keep up with the heat and humidity of Curaçao. It was a great indication of how hot it was going to be at the beach but by now we had gotten accustomed to the heat of the country.

We arrived at the carpark that seemed to be just as sandy as the shore itself and parked the car excitedly as we saw glimpses of the cyan hues of the water from the carpark itself! We also caught little glimpses of the thatched umbrellas as well as a large amount of people! We are kind of introverts but we were willing to risk mental disruption for that breathtaking water! I'm kidding about the level of introvertedness of course.

The first view we got upon entering the beach was that of the photo above. There were people enjoying the brilliant waters, sunbathing, getting drunk at the bar or just lounging away with drinks under the quaint thatched umbrellas. It was such a new sight for an avid beach goer like myself as even thought we live on an island with beautiful tropical beaches, none are as beautiful as these.

The camera was not capturing the proper colors of the water and so in these shots, they look dim but I assure that they were not! I wanted to jump in the water right away but I had to stop myself! It seemed to be glowing! I do not joke when I say that the water seemed to be magically glowing the cyan or turquoise hues and it was mesmerizing! I had to go inside it but first I held focussed and made sure I took more photos as well as drone shots. This was so I would not have to worry about that later and just focus on enjoying the time at the beach!

I decided to walk further down the to the end of the beach and document the way it looked. there were more people bathing on this side. In the above shot, you can see that the camera captured the color of the water properly and get the actual idea of how it looked!

At the far end of the beach, I encountered an amazing rock formation that was perfect for instagram photos. it was such that you could be in the shallow waters and take photos in front of it was well as on the sands as well. There was already a couple there taking photos in the water.

IMG_5695.JPG

Paired with the tranquil blue waters, the rocks as well as the white sand made the place look even more like a paradise than it was. If I wasn't careful, I would end up spending the whole day there taking photos! Just look at that water through the rocks! GLOWING!

Why I Call Cas Abao the Cyan Beauty

DJI_0202.jpg

As soon as I sent up the drone I was even more mesmerized. Even from the crude 1080p feed I was getting on my drone controller, I could see the beauty and magic of the waters as well as the surrounding land and its flora on another level.

DJI_0194.jpg

Going even more far out, I could see that the glowing turquoise waters covered the coastline for miles on end in what seemed like a never ending crest or halo of gem like waters! I could not believe my eyes and was so excited to see the photos and video footage when I transfer the files from the drone memory card that evening!

DJI_0158.jpg

I decided to check the other side of the coastline as it seemed to an interesting and uniform concave shape. I could see awesome pointy mountains in the distance, the likes of which I have never seen before. The undulating hills much closer by that lined the coastline just as much as the cyan waters gave home to settlements and high end beach front properties. I immediately thought that these mansions would have amazing views of the seaside!

I was getting really hot and drenched in sweat in the Curaçaoan heat and decided to fly back to Cas Abao. This gave a view of the other side of the coastline that I would not have enough battery for exploring. But it did seem that the coastline that direction was also crested with the cyan halo of waters!

By the time I landed the drone, felt the strong need to just take off all of my clothes and jump into the what looked like cool waters! It was so hot that taking pictures and flying the drone for so long had me overheating. I packed all my gear away hurriedly and changed into my trunks before plunging into the cool and refreshing waters!

IMG_5707.jpg

It felt like diving into a magical fountain of youth as the glowing cyan waters were so relatively cool that it provided a great refuge from the scorching sun and rejuvenated and moistened my sun scorched body. It was a surreal and dream like experience being in such waters, almost like I was in one of those national geographic magazines or a vacation ad.

Dushi is a word used on the island in their language to, what I understood, say nice, good or sweet. They use it in their tourism slogan "have a Dushi stay". I would say it was at this moment that I felt the exact sense and essence of the word! This experience was definitely dushi and I was grateful to be able to have the opportunity to be there. Thanks for coming along! Cheers!
