Yesterday was a nice spring Sunday. I woke up early with a small nose congestion due to my cold and the day was cloudy, the forecast announced clouds all day and some rain in the afternoon. I decided to take an easy morning and the Cheese Festival in the afternoon, which took place all weekend in Alcains, a village just 10 km north of where I am.
I've been there before as the village is bigger than Escalos, a big supermarket, a laundromat, and a couple of tool stores with most of the stuff you may need for minor repairs.
As I entered the village I could see signs all over guiding you to where the festival was taking place. As I was approaching trying to find a place to park, it started raining and I had no raincoat or umbrella with me, so I waited for a few minutes in the car as the sun was starting to show up and I was not expecting the rain to last too long. Luckily I was right, the rain stopped and I was on my way to the festival.
After a short walk, I entered the area where the festival was taking place, the outside had a tractor and agricultural vehicles exposition, I was curious and took a picture of a very small pickup and a small tractor, I have always thought of getting one of those in the future so that can be a bull run present if we moon sometime. It is way different but I would treat it as my Lambo purchase :)
Once inside, there were like 30 different small cheese producers. A couple of them were from Spain, but the rest were all Portuguese. You could feel the smell in the air, the place was full of people tasting and purchasing the different cheese varieties. Here are some from Galicia, region of Spain just north of Portugal
Another one from Aragon, also north of Spain. The area is popular for hiking in its river canyons.
The following pictures are from two local ones, both from Serra da Estrela (Star Sierra) which is about 1hr north of the village where the festival was taking place.
Besides cheese, you could also find some other local food booths, this one is from Porc enchidos, similar to Spanish embutidos.
I also stopped by one small producer of spirits.
And another one which offered berry bear.
While I was visiting inside, heavy rain started hitting the place, so I decided to relax while waiting for the rain to stop eating a cheese ice cream.
