Hello, my dear friends, and welcome back to my blog.
Today, as I mentioned yesterday, I'm going to talk about another interesting place I discovered during my mini-vacation—a spot that always fascinates me architecturally—a beautiful castle.
I'm talking about the Porciano Castle, a historically significant location in this part of Tuscany. It's in the Casentino area, still in the province of Arezzo. What’s great about this castle is that it's surrounded by greenery, providing both a historical experience and a chance to connect with nature.
Of course, I explored on foot, because as I've mentioned before, slow exploration is the best way to go, in my opinion. I immediately came across a unique bench from which you could enjoy a stunning view and a beautiful landscape.
Before reaching the castle, you must pass through a small village, with some homes seemingly inhabited by residents, while others have been restored and are probably used as vacation homes during the summer.
Not much remains of the castle, which isn't surprising considering it dates back to 1017. However, it played a significant role in defense and power during its time. According to the informational signs, Dante Alighieri stayed here during his exile from Florence, which has been confirmed through discovered documents.
The most striking architectural feature is the large tower, built later, around 1200. It also houses an important museum, but unfortunately, it was closed, and I wasn't sure when it would open.
However, the most enjoyable part, in my opinion, is walking through the village of Porciano, located before you reach the castle. It feels like stepping back in time, as the architecture has remained true to the medieval period.
I took a leisurely stroll for a few hours; I'm quite curious and love to examine every detail of these historic places. You might say I'm a bit obsessed with this aspect of exploration.
I hope you enjoyed the photos I took and shared with you. I encourage you to visit this place. It might not be widely known among tourists, but I think the landscapes and the experience of walking through the village make it well worth the visit.
