A few days ago, @outlinez and I visited a friend who built a house in Bulgarian village of Drachevo in Strandzha mountain. I had never been to this village before and it was a wonderful opportunity to visit our friend and walk around there.
Drachevo is located at the foot of the Northern Strandzha mountain, in the northeastern branches of the Kara tepe ridge.
"It was settled in 1830-1840. It was Turkish and was called Kirkchal (forty drak). After the Russo-Turkish war, the Turks moved out and only Bulgarians remained in the village. In 1934, Kirkchal was renamed to the Bulgarian name Drachevo."
I walked around the center of the village. There is a small park in the center of which there is a stone fountain.
The village hall:
There was a shop and a cafe around.
A large stone table with benches near the village hall.
There were interesting buildings around:
The view from the center of the village was charming. The village was situated on hills and in the distance the view of the wildlife was attractive.
The bus stop painted with the Bulgarian flag:
There were wooden signposts near the bus stop.
One of them directed me to the village church.
"The first church was built of wattle plastered with mud and instead of a bell, a wooden clapper was used."
The new church was built in 1902-1903.
The yard was full of forget-me-nots and geraniums.
A massive building which was locked when I was there, but the bell tower in the courtyard was accessible and I climbed the wooden stairs to reach the bell tower.
It was quiet and peaceful up there and the view from above was beautiful.
Here are more photos from the village streets: the houses, the river, the courtyards and the gardens.
There are interesting sights on the outskirts of the village and our friend has promised to take us to see them the next time we come here.
