Desde que mi hijo tenia 4 años he estado buscando algunas actividades extra académicas ya que cuando pasa tiempo en casa desea es estar frente a una pantalla, bien sea viendo videos o jugando en la tablet o mi teléfono; cosa que para mí era preocupante pues hay que limitar el tiempo de uso de estos aparatos; a pesar de tener juguetes no se le hacia divertido tener que jugar solo y lamentablemente donde vivia en ese momento no había mas niños pequeños para interactuar, por lo que solo se relacionaba con sus compañeros de clases en el turno de la mañana.
Since my son was 4 years old I have been looking for some extra academic activities since when he spends time at home he wants to be in front of a screen, either watching videos or playing on the tablet or my phone; something that for me was worrying because you have to limit the time of use of these devices; despite having toys it was not fun to have to play alone and unfortunately where I lived at that time there were no more young children to interact, so he only interacted with his classmates in the morning shift.
Un día caminando por la urbanización veo un grupo de niños jugando fútbol y me acerque; converse con el entrenador y aceptaron a mi hijo con la condición de estar en la categoría de 5 años. Me pareció una excelente idea ya que me quedaba cerca de el apartamento y el horario no me chocaba con el de mi trabajo. Me dispuse a comprarle lo necesario para poder practicar este deporte y los primeros días era una emoción asistir, luego fue perdiendo el interés y cuando le tocaba un partido el simplemente o se ponia hablar o terminaba llenandose de tierra en la cancha jajaja hasta que un dia me participo que no queria ir, volvemos a empezar la búsqueda de una actividad.
One day while walking through the urbanization I saw a group of children playing soccer and I approached them; I talked to the coach and they accepted my son on the condition that he would be in the 5 year old category. I thought it was an excellent idea since I was close to the apartment and the schedule did not clash with my work. I set out to buy him what he needed to practice this sport and the first few days it was a thrill to attend, then he lost interest and when he had a game he just started talking or ended up filling up with dirt on the court hahaha until one day he told me that he did not want to go, we started again the search for an activity.
Al cabo de un tiempo ví un flyer de una tarea dirigida en un lugar cercano, está también ofrecía yoga para niños, bailes y bastantes actividades dinámicas; allí empecé a notar el agrado en asistir, cuando llegaba a casa estaba contento y de hecho habia avanzado mucho por la parte académica, algo irónico es que soy docente pero a mi dijo que yo no soy su maestra sino su mamá. Luego cuando empezó a ver clases de inglés se empieza a interesar por esto y encontré una academia que aceptaban niños desde los 3 años, allí estuvo tres trimestres, los cuales fueron un año, pero luego se me hizo muy costoso.
After a while I saw a flyer of a homework directed in a nearby place, it also offered yoga for children, dances and many dynamic activities; there I began to notice the pleasure in attending, when he came home he was happy and in fact he had advanced a lot in the academic part, something ironic is that I am a teacher but he told me that I am not his teacher but his mom. Then when he started to see English classes he became interested in this and I found an academy that accepted children from 3 years old, he was there for three trimesters, which was a year, but then it became very expensive.
Pasamos por una mudanza y nos tocó adaptarnos a ese nuevo lugar, el cual puedo decir que es de polo a polo de donde estábamos, realmente no sabia donde quedaban muchas cosas, pero tenemos cerca un polideportivo asi que lo lleve y empezamos otra vez con el futbol, para mi era lo mas comun para varones y al principio mi hijo acepto pero paso lo mismo de la otra vez, eso no es algo que le apasione. Lo lleve a karate, a béisbol, atletismo y natación y desde el primer día dijo un "NO" rotundo, no deseo volver, me dijo que a el le gustaba era inglés, averiguando conseguí una muchacha que le da clases particulares cerca de la casa y allí si va gustoso y hasta repasa conmigo sin decirme que no soy su maestra jajaja
We went through a move and we had to adapt to this new place, which I can say is from polo to polo from where we were, I really did not know where many things were, but we have a sports center nearby so I took him and we started again with soccer, for me it was the most common for boys and at first my son accepted but the same thing happened the other time, that is not something he is passionate about. I took him to karate, baseball, athletics and swimming and from the first day he said a resounding "NO", he did not want to go back, he told me that he liked English, I found a girl who gives him private lessons near the house and there if he goes gladly and even reviews with me without telling me that I am not his teacher hahaha.
En la casa empiezo a notar que el se ponía hacer volteretas, intentaba paradas de manos y hasta abria por completo las piernas, le pregunté si le gustaría ir a gimnasia y me respondió que sí. Me acerque nuevamente al polideportivo, hablé con una entrenadora quien lo evaluó y me dijo que si estaba apto para hacer esa disciplina, la siguiente semana ya estaba inscrito e ingreso en el grupo con los varones los cuales tienen un entrenamiento distinto, estos asisten tres veces a la semana por una hora y media, esos dias mi hijo es feliz, esta pendiente de llegar puntual, se viste solo, va y viene con una sonrisa.
At home I began to notice that he started doing somersaults, tried handstands and even opened his legs wide, I asked him if he would like to go to gymnastics and he said yes. I went again to the sports center, I talked to a trainer who evaluated him and told me that he was fit to do that discipline, the following week he was already enrolled and entered the group with the boys who have a different training, they attend three times a week for an hour and a half, those days my son is happy, he is pending to arrive on time, he dresses himself, he comes and goes with a smile on his face.
Está es una disciplina la cual jamás paso por mi mente que a mi hijo le gustaría, de hecho hasta pense en desistir que hiciera algun deporte porque nada le atraía, sin darme cuenta que era yo la que estaba eligiendo mal por irme por lo más común y que no le habia dado chance a el de escoger y/o descubrir lo que queria hacer, pero como los padres estamos en constante aprendizaje también, la leccion fue escuchar mas los intereses del niño y asi apoyarlo hacia lo que a el le guste. Personalmente la gimnasia y las clases de inglés son la mejor inversión que hago, aparte del colegio y me parece que las actividades extra académicas complementan muchísimo al tener tiempo de calidad y enseñanza para nuestros hijos.
This is a discipline which never crossed my mind that my son would like it, in fact I even thought about giving up any sport because nothing attracted him, without realizing that it was me who was choosing wrong for going for the most common and that I had not given him a chance to choose and / or discover what he wanted to do, but as parents we are constantly learning too, the lesson was to listen more to the interests of the child and thus support him towards what he likes. Personally, gymnastics and English classes are the best investment I make, apart from school, and I find that extra-curricular activities complement a lot by having quality time and teaching for our children.

Es así, cuando prácticas algún deporte aprendes a tener disciplina, responsabilidad y constancia.
